The morning sun filtered through the curtains as Ethan and Emily sat at the kitchen table, enjoying a quiet breakfast together. It had been a few weeks since Emily's return, and things between them had settled into a comfortable routine.
As they sipped their coffee, Emily broke the silence with a comment that caught Ethan completely off guard. "I've been thinking," she began, her voice soft but serious, "about us... and about our future."Ethan looked up from his newspaper, sensing the weight of her words. "What do you mean?" he asked, setting the paper aside and giving her his full attention.
Emily hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath. "I know we've been trying to rebuild our relationship," she said carefully. "And I think we've made a lot of progress. But there's something I've been thinking about a lot lately... something I've wanted to talk to you about."
Ethan's heart skipped a beat, his mind racing through all the possibilities. "What is it?" he asked, trying to keep his voice steady.
Emily looked down at her coffee cup, her fingers tracing the rim as she gathered her thoughts. "It's about having a child," she finally said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I know we never really talked about it seriously before, but... maybe it's something we should consider."
Ethan felt as though the air had been sucked out of the room. Of all the things she could have said, this was the last he had expected. "A child?" he repeated, disbelief colouring his tone. "Why now, Emily? After eight years, why are you bringing this up?"
Emily's gaze met his, and he could see the uncertainty in her eyes. "I know it seems sudden," she admitted. "But I've been thinking about it a lot lately. Maybe it's because we've been trying to work things out... trying to reconnect. And I just keep thinking that maybe... maybe a child could help us bring our lives back together. Give us something to focus on, something to bond over."
Ethan felt a rush of emotions—confusion, concern, and a tinge of panic. The idea of having a child with Emily now, when their relationship was still on shaky ground, seemed like a recipe for disaster. "Emily, we agreed to try and rebuild our relationship for six months," he reminded her gently. "What if things don't work out? Bringing a child into this situation could make everything even more complicated."
Emily sighed, clearly struggling with her own thoughts. "I know," she said softly. "But I also think that we can make it work. I've seen the progress we've made, Ethan. I feel closer to you now than I have in a long time. And maybe... maybe this is the next step for us."
Ethan leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples as he tried to process what she was saying. The guilt he had been carrying for weeks now pressed down on him even harder. How could he even consider having a child with Emily when he was already planning to end their marriage? But as he looked at her, the hope in her eyes, the way she seemed so genuinely committed to trying to make things work, he felt a pang of guilt that cut deep. He couldn't bring himself to crush her hopes, not yet.
"Emily," he said finally, his voice steady but firm, "I understand where you're coming from, and I appreciate that you're thinking about our future. But I think we need to take this one step at a time. We agreed to give it six months, to see if we could rebuild what we had. Let's see where we are in a few months, and if it feels right... we can talk about it again."
Emily nodded slowly, her disappointment evident, but she didn't push the issue further. "You're right," she said quietly. "We should take it one step at a time."
Ethan reached across the table, taking her hand in his. "I want us to get back to a good place," he said sincerely. "And if that means letting nature run its course... then we'll see what happens."
Emily squeezed his hand, a small smile returning to her lips. "Thank you, Ethan," she said softly. "I just want us to be happy."
Ethan forced a smile in return, though his mind was already racing with thoughts of what he would do if Emily became pregnant. The very idea filled him with dread, but he knew he couldn't let her see that. For now, he would continue to play the part of the loving husband, even as his guilt gnawed at him from the inside.
Later that day, Ethan found himself back at the office, trying to push the morning's conversation out of his mind. But it was difficult to concentrate, especially with the knowledge that Sophia would be coming to see him soon. She had texted him earlier, suggesting they meet up, and he had eagerly agreed.
When Sophia arrived, she didn't waste any time. She walked into his office with a confident smile, locking the door behind her before turning to face him. "I've been thinking about you all morning," she said, her voice low and seductive. "I want to create more experiences with you, Ethan."
Ethan felt a surge of excitement, the tension from his earlier conversation with Emily momentarily forgotten. "What did you have in mind?" he asked, his voice thick with anticipation.
Sophia's smile widened as she approached his desk, her eyes filled with mischief. "I was thinking... we've never done it here before," she suggested, her hand trailing over the edge of his desk. "Why don't we make some new memories right now?"
Ethan's pulse quickened as he realized what she was suggesting. The thrill of the forbidden, of doing something so risky, sent a jolt of adrenaline through him. Without a word, he stood up and crossed the room to her, his hands immediately finding her waist as he pulled her close.
Sophia giggled softly, wrapping her arms around his neck. "I knew you'd be up for it," she whispered, her breath warm against his ear.
Ethan didn't need any more encouragement. He lifted her onto his desk, his lips finding hers in a heated kiss. The rest of the world faded away as they gave in to their desire, their passion overwhelming any sense of caution or restraint.
The desk creaked beneath them as they moved together, their movements urgent and uninhibited. Sophia's fingers dug into his shoulders as she whispered his name, the sound of her voice driving him to the brink of madness. Every touch, every kiss, was charged with the thrill of the moment, the knowledge that they were pushing the boundaries of what was acceptable.
When it was over, Sophia looked up at Ethan, her eyes filled with satisfaction. "That was amazing," she murmured, a lazy smile playing on her lips.
Ethan grinned, his hand brushing a strand of hair from her face. "You're incredible," he replied, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
Sophia seemed to sense his unease and leaned up to kiss him softly. "Take a day off with me," she suggested. "Let's get out of here, just the two of us. We can spend the day together, away from all of this."
Ethan hesitated for a moment, but the idea was too tempting to resist. "You're right," he said, his voice firm with determination. "I'll take the day off. We deserve some time together."
Sophia's smile widened as she kissed him again, a kiss filled with promise and excitement. "Let's make it a day to remember," she whispered. They got dressed and prepared to leave the office.
