"What are you doing here?" Kelly asked, not looking up from his notebook, where he was trying to understand chemistry.
"Getting your stubborn ass to talk," Andy said, flopping down on the couch beside Kelly. "What's going on in that thick skull of yours?"
"Nothing," Kelly said, rolling his eyes. He slammed his notebook and tossed it to the coffee table.
"It isn't nothing so spill," Andy said, throwing a pillow at Kelly's head.
"You and Heather, she comes from money; you don't. How's that going?" Kelly asked, turning to face Andy on the couch and throwing the pillow back at him. Andy was initially confused, thinking Kelly was about to change the subject again, but instead, he wondered if their status was an issue with Kelly.
"Her parents don't know about us, but money has never been an issue. Sure, she comes from more, but she isn't snobby and doesn't show it off. We do things that don't cost a lot of money, and on days I want to spoil her, I have to plan it to save up. Sure, I was insecure about it at first, but she had soothed this without me even knowing it," Andy answered truthfully and then narrowed his eyes at Kelly. "Why do you ask? Money an issue with you?"
"Not really," Kelly said with a heavy sigh. "I talked to my mom about this a couple of days ago but didn't mention that if Matt leaves his family, I don't know if he expects to live a comfortable life like he does now."
"Nope," Andy answered immediately, and Kelly raised an eyebrow at his friend. "Oh, come on, it's Matt," Andy sighed. "That guy is pretty adaptable, plus he's smart and talented, and you're good looking"—ducked from a pillow— "I think the money he uses for himself is what he got from that art show he did a while back, that's what Heather told me. Plus, with you at his side, he couldn't care less, trust me."
"Yeah," Kelly said, feeling a bit stupid for thinking Matt might feel like that even though he knew the truth deep down. "I don't know how to approach the issue of us being a secret and shit like that."
"If it's getting Matt to see how he is truly being treated, then I think you have Connor and Heather to help you. They are trying to talk to Matt about it," Andy said, and Kelly felt a bit relieved that he wouldn't be the only one talking to Matt about this.
"Yeah, I guess I should feel relief toward Connor more than jealousy," Kelly said with a chuckle, and Andy smiled knowingly.
"They kissed to find out their sexuality, that's all," Andy said, and Kelly grunted. "Platonic love, that's all. Matt has you, and I am almost sure there's nothing more than platonic or brotherly love between the two. No need to rear your jealousy in that direction."
"You find this amusing, don't you," Kelly said, throwing the pillow back at Andy, who laughed and nodded.
Are you jealous of someone who will never take Matt away from you? Definitely," Andy said. Kelly rolled his eyes and got up to sit beside Andy on the couch.
"Fuck off," he said, and Andy just grinned and grabbed the controllers. Kelly looked down at his lap and sighed heavily. "He will, right? Maybe not between myself and Connor but me and the life his sperm and egg donors planned for him." Andy raised a questioning eyebrow at Kelly's choice of words.
"Internal fights about family dynamics are complicated, and so is child abuse," Andy answered honestly, and Kelly pursed his lips. "But, hey, if it really came down to it, he'll walk away."
