Elizabeth ran into Connor's room to find Matt curled up in a ball, screaming out in agony, and Heather looking two seconds from crying and panic-stricken. She ordered Heather to grab ice and Connor to bring a water bottle while she ran to Connor's bathroom to grab a wet towel. She dabbed at his forehead lightly and rubbed his back, waiting for the pain to subside as she already knew what was causing the pain.

When her son and Heather came running back in with what she asked for, Matt had stopped screaming and was instead breathing heavily. Connor and Elizabeth helped move a stilted Matt onto the bed, and Connor and Heather sat on either side of Matt to support him while Elizabeth kneeled in front of him.

"Matt?" she whispered softly, placing her hands on his knees. Matt's unclear gaze moved to meet hers, and she smiled softly.

"I'm going to place this over your shoulder," she said. She waited for Matt to nod before moving to place the ice pack on Matt's shoulder. Heather uncapped the water bottle and handed it to Matt. Matt didn't move to grab it, so she placed it on Connor's bedside table.

"What happened?" Matt asked, furrowing in confusion, and Elizabeth's wide grin spread across her face.

"What?" Connor asked, a bit concerned.

"Congratulations, Matthew Casey," she said, and Matt frowned even deeper. "Your soulmate bond has officially been completed!"

"WHAT!?!" All three teens exclaimed, and Elizabeth chuckled as she stood up and moved to sit on Connor's desk chair.

"It happens when a true declaration of love has been made," she said. Matt blinked several times, and Heather squealed and shook Matt's uninjured arm.

"Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh," she whispered excitedly.

"But we haven't said those words to each other," Matt said confusedly.

"It doesn't need to be said to each other; it just needs to be said," she clarified. Matt turned to look at his shoulder, removed the ice pack, and lifted his sleeve. There, on his right shoulder, was the mark, identical to his left shoulder and the matching one on Kelly's shoulder.

"Do you feel any different? Can you read his thoughts? What is Kelly thinking right now?" Heather rambled out questions.

"Right now, I feel as if someone is trying to break every bone in my hand," Matt said. She immediately let go of Matt's hand and blushed.

"Sorry," she said, basically buzzing with excited energy.

"Congrats, man," Connor said, slapping Matt's back and turning to his mother. "What does this mean, though?"

"What happens after is mostly unknown as it changes depending on the couple," she said, and Matt tilted his head.

"Is this like a marriage type of thing?" Matt asked, and Elizabeth made a so-so gesture with her hand.

"Technically speaking, a bonded soulmate is more official than a marriage in a court of law, but because soulmates are so rare, let alone bonded pairs, it's often a law that's left forgotten," she explained, and Matt frowned. He was rethinking everything he and Voight had discussed the night before.

"This is so exciting," Heather whispered, and Matt let a soft smile slip onto his face. "Connor!" she exclaimed, catching her other friend's attention. "Our little boy is all grown up and has gotten himself bonded," she said, wiping a fake tear from her face.
