Taehyung paced nervously outside the grand throne room, clutching a small, worn piece of parchment in his hand. It contained the speech he had rehearsed countless times, words he hoped would convince his father to listen to him. He had tried before, but each attempt had either been met with cold indifference or outright scorn. Yet, deep inside, Taehyung still believed that if he could somehow prove his innocence, if he could make his father see the truth, he might be able to regain some of his former life.

The heavy doors to the throne room creaked open, and the servants gestured for him to enter. Taehyung straightened his shoulders and took a deep breath before stepping inside. His father, King Seonho, sat upon the gilded throne, his expression as unreadable as ever. Seojoon and Wooshik stood by his side, flanked by their wives, Hyungsik and Damie. Jiyeon, as always, was seated not far from the king, her gaze flicking toward Taehyung with the faintest hint of a smirk.

"Father," Taehyung began, bowing deeply, "I have come to speak to you once more about the events that led to my disgrace. I know in your heart you must feel that something about the accusations against me is wrong."

Before he could continue, a group of servants snickered from the back of the room. One of them whispered something under his breath, loud enough for the court to hear. "Here comes the prince with his tales of innocence again. Should we believe him this time?"

The room erupted in quiet laughter. Even Jiyeon's lips curled into a mocking smile, her eyes gleaming with amusement. Taehyung's heart sank, but he pressed on.

"I swear to you, Father," Taehyung said, his voice unwavering, "nothing happened between Jiyeon and me. I have always loved her as a sister, nothing more. I am still-"

"Enough!" King Seonho's voice thundered, silencing the room. His expression hardened as he leaned forward. "You have brought nothing but shame to this family. No amount of pleading will change what has already been seen and heard by the court. Your guilt has been proven."

Taehyung swallowed hard, his hopes crashing around him. He had known it would be difficult to convince his father, but to be met with such finality was soul-crushing. His eyes flicked toward Jiyeon, who raised an eyebrow at him, her smirk never faltering. She relished in his despair, and there was nothing he could do about it.

The court was dismissed shortly after, and as Taehyung left the throne room, he overheard more whispers, more laughter. The servants had long since decided his fate, just as the king had. No matter how hard he tried, it seemed no one believed in his innocence.

But amidst the harsh judgment, there were small pockets of light. Seojoon and Wooshik's children, too young to understand the politics and lies of the court, adored their samchoon. For them, Taehyung was still a figure of love and kindness. Whenever they could, they would sneak away from their mothers and grandfather's watchful eyes to play with him.

"Samchoon!" Seojoon's youngest son, Minho, called out one day as Taehyung was tending to the garden. "Can you tell us the story about the dragon again?"

Taehyung smiled at the sight of the children running toward him, their eyes full of wonder and excitement. For them, he wasn't the disgraced prince-he was simply Taehyung, their beloved uncle. They would sit with him for hours, hidden in the corners of the garden, away from the judgment of the adults, listening to his stories and playing games.

But the peace never lasted.

---

One evening, as Taehyung was preparing to leave the palace gardens, Jiyeon approached him, her eyes dark with intent. Her steps were slow, deliberate, as she circled him like a predator stalking its prey.

"You still fight so hard for your father's approval," she said softly, her voice almost teasing. "It's quite admirable, really."

Taehyung stiffened, sensing the trap in her words. "What do you want, Jiyeon?"

She stopped in front of him, tilting her head slightly, her expression unreadable. "I can help you, you know. I can tell the king the truth. I can clear your name."

Taehyung narrowed his eyes, his heart racing. "And what would you ask of me in return?"

Jiyeon's smile widened as she stepped closer, her voice lowering to a whisper. "One night, Taehyung. Just one night with me, and I'll tell your father everything. I'll tell him that the scandal was all a lie, that nothing happened between us."

Revulsion churned in Taehyung's stomach. He took a step back, shaking his head. "I will not sell my soul for your lies."

Her eyes darkened, and the smile that had once seemed playful now twisted into something more dangerous. "You still think you're above me, don't you?" she hissed. "Even now, after everything I've done to you, you still reject me."

Taehyung stood his ground, though his voice was cold. "I will never give in to your manipulations, Jiyeon. I know what's right, and I know that I've done nothing wrong."

Jiyeon's face twisted with fury. "You will regret this."

---

The very next day, tragedy struck. Hyungsik's six-year-old daughter, Haeun, was found lying in the palace gardens, crying and clutching her arm, which had been injured in a fall. The entire court was in an uproar, and before anyone could piece together what had happened, Jiyeon was already spinning her web of lies.

"I saw it with my own eyes!" Jiyeon cried dramatically, standing before the king and the gathered nobles. "Taehyung pushed her! He was angry, and he took it out on poor Haeun. How could he do such a thing to an innocent child?"

Gasps filled the room as everyone turned their eyes toward Taehyung, who stood frozen in disbelief. His heart pounded in his chest as he looked to Haeun, who was too young and too frightened to speak.

"That's not true!" Taehyung protested, his voice cracking with desperation. "I would never hurt her! She fell on her own, I swear!"

But Jiyeon's lies had already taken root. The court murmured, casting judgmental glances at him, while the king's expression grew even darker.

"Enough!" King Seonho's voice cut through the noise, his gaze fixed on Taehyung with cold fury. "I've heard enough. You have shamed this family once again."

Taehyung's heart broke. Once again, he was left standing alone, his innocence ignored, while Jiyeon watched with a satisfied smile, her victory complete.
