The day before Taehyung's departure
___________

The grand hall of Honseong was filled with hushed whispers as the kingdom gathered to witness the trial of Jiyeon. King Seonho stood at the forefront, his expression a mixture of authority and deep contemplation. Today, justice would be served, and the citizens of Honseong needed to see that no one was above the consequences of their actions.

Jungkook stood beside Taehyung, his heart racing as he prepared for the outcome of this pivotal moment. Taehyung’s hand tightened around his, a silent show of support amid the tension. The atmosphere was charged, anticipation and fear swirling in the air as Jiyeon, now a shell of her former self, was brought before the throne.

“Citizens of Honseong,” King Seonho began, his voice echoing through the hall, “today we confront the actions of Jiyeon, whose obsession and cruelty have caused deep wounds to Prince Taehyung. She has tarnished his name, manipulated those around her, and sought to destroy his happiness for her own gain. It is time for her to face the consequences.”

As Jiyeon stood, her face pale and gaunt from the effects of Nejis, she felt the weight of the entire kingdom’s judgment upon her. The shame burned in her chest, but she had made her choices, and now she would have to answer for them.

“Jiyeon,” the king continued, “you are charged with emotional and psychological torment of Prince Taehyung, manipulation, and public defamation. You used your beauty and charm to ensnare others, leading them to harm the very person you claimed to love.”

King Seonho paused, surveying the crowd, allowing the gravity of Jiyeon’s actions to sink in. “This court finds you guilty. And for your crimes, you will face the harshest punishment our kingdom can bestow.”

Jungkook took a step forward, his voice steady yet firm. “Your Majesty, she must be made to understand the pain she has caused. She has tormented Taehyung and sought to destroy his life. It’s not enough for her to be banished; she must experience the suffering she inflicted upon others.”

King Seonho nodded, acknowledging Jungkook’s words. “You are right, Jungkook. Jiyeon, your punishment will be severe. You will be stripped of your title and status, and you will be banished from Honseong, but that is merely the beginning.”

As the crowd held their breath, Jiyeon’s heart raced, dread pooling in her stomach. King Seonho continued, his voice echoing through the hall with unwavering authority. “You will be sentenced to ten years of labor in the mines, where you will work alongside those you sought to oppress. You will live among the commoners, with no privileges or favors. You will know the suffering you inflicted upon Prince Taehyung.”

Gasps filled the hall, but the king raised a hand for silence. “And there is more. You will be publicly branded, a mark of your betrayal to the royal family and the kingdom. This mark will serve as a reminder to all that obsession and cruelty will not be tolerated. You will bear this mark for the rest of your life, as a symbol of your disgrace.”

Taehyung’s heart twisted in a mix of emotions—anger, sadness, and relief. Jiyeon had caused him pain beyond measure, but the severity of her punishment was almost overwhelming. He turned to Jungkook, who looked resolute, his gaze fixed on Jiyeon with determination.

“Do you understand the weight of your actions, Jiyeon?” King Seonho demanded, his voice unyielding. “You will face this punishment not only as atonement for your sins but as a warning to others. The damage you have done can’t be undone, but perhaps this will serve as a reminder to others that obsession leads only to ruin.”

Jiyeon’s shoulders slumped as she realized the full extent of her punishment. “I—I understand,” she stammered, tears spilling down her cheeks. “I was wrong. I was blinded by my desires…”
