Lt Kevin Thomas Riley and Lady Karissa Elizabeth Ann go way back when they first meet journeying towards Star Base 12 in 2272, when the USS Republic orbited around Talos Four.
Lt Kevin Thomas Riley had just laid to rest his family savagely murdered by Kudos, the governor of Talos Four and he had escaped Talos Four with his daughter.
Only three people lived to see what he looked like and Kevin Thomas Riley and James T Kirk and one other remembered what he looked like.
Lt Kevin Thomas Riley was haunted by his face and he was told from those who survived about the needless executions of many thousands of executed people due to a famine that swept Talos Four.
This was Kudo's answer to the famine that swept Talos Four.
The remaining food would be given to only the elite families on Talos Four and once it ran out they would die of starvation.
The Kudos government would decide who would live and die and Kevin's family was not one of the elite and his father, mother and sister were three of the people.
Captain Kirk heard that his old friend, Thomas Layton had died mysteriously but his wife, Nancy told Jim Kirk " He is out of his pain, He had been haunted by the past when he heard the screams of the many people on Talos Four. "
"Tom couldn't sleep and he had been restless." Nancy explains.
The doctors called it "Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome." Nancy states.

Traveling back to Star Base 12, Lt Kevin Thomas Riley experienced the same thing and he could hear the screaming voices of his mother and sister as they were executed, but his father died bravely.
It would lead Lt Kevin Thomas Riley to the garden on board the USS Republic where three Post War World Three war orphans would seek solace from their past
It was not known if any of the three war orphans had suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.
Lt Kevin Thomas Riley started to spend time with all three in the garden , and also in the Mess Hall where they ate their meals, but he grew attached to Karissa Elizabeth Ann Lowell.
When they beamed down to Star Base 12 in 2274, he had to return to Star-Fleet Academy to restart his education of Star-Fleet Academy.
In 2276, he returns to Star Base 12 for Shore-leave with Captain James T Kirk, Dr. McCoy, and Mr Spock and they take Shore-leave on Star Base 12.
By the time he returns he finds out that Karissa is married to Lord Andrew Charles Howard who is now Duke of Norfolk Territory and she is Duchess of Norfolk Territory and they have a daughter, Lady Elizabeth Victoria Ann Beltane.
He asks for an audience to see Karissa and she grants and when he walks in he bows to her and she smiles up at him " I had to see you Karissa." Kevin tells her.
"How have you been Kevin since the last time I saw you?' Karissa asks.
"I have been well Karissa. " Kevin tells her.
"Are you happy with your internship?" Karissa asks.
"I am satisfied and in time it will land me a good position as an engineer with Star-Fleet command." Kevin tells her.
"Will a job keep you warm in your bed at night?" Karissa asks.
"I think you are headed for a very lonely Kevin. I would hate to see that happen to you.' Karissa admits.
"Hopefully when you have completed this internship and you return to Star-Base 12 you will settle down, date, marry and start a family.' Karissa tells him.
"I don't know any woman in her right mind that will marry you until you return to Star-Base 12 and you cease to be a Space Cadet." Karissa explains.
"Do you know that Lady Isabella Collins always had a crush on you when you came to see us?" Karissa asks.
"Lady Josette is married to Lord John Seymour and Lady Millicent is married to Lord Charles Andrew Howard The Third as his second wife." Karissa asks him.
"Lord Collins doesn't have the money for a dowry for his daughters, but Lord John and Lord Charles Andrew The Third married his two daughters without one. " Karissa explains.
"She is a very good catch and she is one of the most beautiful people here on Star Base 12." Karissa admits.
"Susan is married to Lord Andrew Charles' first cousin, and so is Katheryn." Karissa explains.
"Did you hear that Thomas Layton died mysteriously/ Karissa asks.
"I did hear Karissa. He was haunted by the screams of the past and the many hundreds of innocent people who were executed on Talos Four as I am.' Kevin tells her.
"I am surprised that Captain Kirk is not haunted by the same cries but maybe he is good at concealing it." Kevin admits.
"I can still hear the cries of my mother and sister ast they were dragged out on the terrible day on Talos Four." Kevin admits.
"I hope you find peace, Kevin. Don't let the ghosts of the past hold you back from being happy.' Karissa tells him.
"I wanted to thank you for hosting us here at Norfolk Estate and Manor." Kevin tells her.
"It has been my pleasure Kevin. I sure hope you return to Star Base 12 where you can begin your life again.' Karissa tells him.
With everything said and done, Kevin bows and he leaves the drawing room at Norfolk Estate and Manor.
