Houston, TexasCentral High School
"I HATE JIM! He is SO DUMB! I bawled. "He was supposed to be my Black Prince in shining armor." I was losing it.
"Come on Kali, you can't cry forever. You'll find somebody else," one of my friends said. They were trying to cheer me up and that was not freaking working. How could he break up with me when we were almost done with High School? We had only three more months till we found some freedom at least. How could he?
I looked like a mess, my mascara smudged. Looking like a raccoon was not the best look for me at the moment. I knew that most people went through breakups. It was common. But why do I feel like my whole world is falling apart? I loved him. I loved him so much.
"Girl you're better off without Jim," my best friend Rylee said. I thought she was always there for me. We had good times and bad times. I'd been there for her and she'd been there for me too. I needed her in this. To help me find myself again. "If you want, you can always spend the weekend with me. We can go to lots of places to make you take your mind off him."
I saw my ex holding onto the girl he cheated on me with. Jim was the perfect boy for me. We had been together since we were freshmen. He knew how much I felt about him. But with most jocks, this was expected to happen. A football player falling in love with a cheerleader was the same old cliche story. We were part of the crew most likely to succeed. The favorite All-American Black couple. It wasn't that at all now, it was gone. Now it was time for me to move on to the next chapter of my life. Rylee dismissed us and we walked straight toward her vehicle.
"You can't expect a fairy tale story all the time, Kali. Life can be hard sometimes. Focus on your future. I have something cool to tell you and you're not going to believe it."
"What is it?" I asked.
"Casey Friedman is my long distant cousin. A popular actor and comedian. Found out from my parents three months ago. I had been talking to Casey for days now and he had been super chill. Remember when I went to New York with my parents? Well, I went with them to see one of his shows, and let me tell you that boy was hilarious. He gave me his number and we'd been talking and video chatting for a while now."
"I heard of him but just don't follow Hollyweird things that much."
Rylee laughed. "He has his TV show. Casey the extraordinaire. You may have seen him in some Hollywood movies too. He is quite impressive. Very nice guy at that." She pulled me to her. "I think you will love him."
"Like as if I need any more drama in my life."
"His story is sad, Kali. Casey lost his wife and unborn child in a car accident two years ago. So nothing in his life is such a thing." That was quite sad. I thought I heard about this. But as always it was Hollywood.
I didn't pay much attention to famous people, but I had heard of him in some way. I'd turned on the television to see a gorgeous, and tall dark-haired blue-eyed boy telling jokes. I loved tv but I was not so obsessed with it. I was more into being a bookworm, and cheerleading things. I was occupied with my boyfriend and didn't care so much about hot Hollywood guys. How could he live knowing he lost everything?
"I know it is sad."
"If you think your life is hard right now. Think about Casey. And on top of that, he lost his aunt who was so close to him a year later from cancer. She was an inspiration and was an actress too. Five months later, his dog was stolen from his front porch. It hurts you know." Poor guy.
"I hope there's not another sad story."
"Well, he is doing much better. Moneywise. His net worth is estimated to be around 400 million. He is worth that much because of marketing and other business endeavors. And his dad owns a major studio."
