A WEEK LATERTake my Breath Away. By Berlin was playing on the radio.
"Watching every motion in my foolish lover's game. On this endless ocean, finally, lovers know no shame. Turning and returning to some secret place inside. Watching in slow motion as you turn around and say...
"... Take my breath away. Take my breath away."
This would forever be one of our favorite songs while Casey drove a rental vehicle to his parent's mansion after we contemplated this for another WEEK. Plans of us traveling to Europe were on pause till we met up with them. Everything was just not being scheduled as planned.
Casey decided on having the rental because he wanted to take me to several places during our stay. And I was so glad. He turned up the volume of the radio.
"...My love take my breath away," he sang. He took one look at me, a twinkle in his blue eye. That boy was sure taking my breath away and I loved him so much.
"Take my breath away..."
We sang in unison, not missing a beat. I blushed and looked away when Casey winked. Oh God, I was going to die with love. If love could kill I would have died already. Then it began raining which seemed kind of calming while we were alone inside a vehicle. A red light returned, causing Casey to hold onto my hand for a few seconds. He massaged it, looked right at me, and smiled. "Don't be nervous. I think they will like you. If not, we have both songs to listen to. Take my breath away and Nothing's gonna stop us now."
"Casey what if something stops us," I told him. I was betraying him.
"It will never stop us. We have each other's back, my love. Remember we are building a dream together." I wanted it to work out so badly.

Casey was holding onto my hand while we waited for the front door to open. It was a massive home with lots of yards. Just a place for a large family to live in. I held his hand tightly when I heard a noise. Thank God I was wearing something simple. It was a cute peplum red dress and nude shoes. My black box braids meet my shoulder as always. I loved them short. I had very thick Afro-looking hair that was kept in the protected hairstyle that was doing wonders, protecting it.
Then the door opened up, presenting a dark-haired woman with large blue eyes. She was of average height and quite slim. "My baby boy is here for a visit," she said with a smile. She rushed toward her son, holding him tightly. I could tell that she missed him very much. She looked just like me in his arms. So petite.
My smile faltered when she didn't even take a glimpse at my direction. She saw me for sure but decided to just ignore my presence and that made me feel so bad. I was hurting on the inside as much as I was hurting for betraying Casey. "Mom, this is my girlfriend Kaliyah." I have never used my full name ever. Hearing Kaliyah made me feel like a different person.
His mother whose name was Quinn, seemed so off. "Nice to meet you," she said with a very forced smile. I knew one when I saw it. It was just not genuine enough. Not even a handshake. "Please take off your shoes."
Casey and I came in together, Casey with his hand on my lower back. I didn't know if he noticed how weird she was with me. I had a feeling she thought I was just one of many, the one to not even have a life with her son.
"The room on the second floor to the right of the statue of the horse should be your room. The bed is already prepared," Quinn said with a fake smile again. She was one of the wealthy women who just didn't like their son being of some different race. Her silky cream dress, pearl earrings, and expensive-looking necklaces made her look like a very rich woman who cared so much about her looks. She was not a fan of me. Couldn't even look me in the eye that much.
