Aiko's small hand wraps around the cotton tail of the bunny as you sit with your back to him, folding laundry.

Suddenly you hear a yelp. Bunny or Aiko, you're not sure but you swivel around to check, scared. From the look on your son's face it seems he's pulled the tail of your pet bunny. He looks at you worriedly.

"Aiko"! You hiss, annoyed at your child for not knowing better. "Bunnies are for watching and petting. Not playing"! Your voice is raised.

Tears well up in Aiko's big indigo eyes and you immediately feel as if you've overreacted. But before you can apologize, Aiko runs from the room, crying and calling for Tamaki.

"Daddy! daddy"! You hear him wail as his feet patter hurriedly down the hall.

You put your forehead in your hands, sighing. This parenting thing is hard. You hear the vague sound of Tamaki's gentle voice asking Aiko what happened and Aiko's hiccuping voice replying that you yelled at him. You feel awful, walking over to the bunny's cage and looking at its tail. It's perfectly uninjured, perhaps even a bit over dramatic. You glare at it.

"Mommy's scary", you hear Aiko mumble to Tamaki as you walk down the hall towards them. You stop in your tracks but Tamaki sees you and catches your eye. You can't read his facial expression. He's holding Aiko, tiny arms strung around his neck. Aiko's face is buried in Tamaki's shoulder. Tamaki shushes Aiko, soothingly and shakes his head at you as if confused. You mouth 'I'm sorry' at him.

When Aiko is down for his afternoon nap, Tamaki approaches you in the living room.

"Why'd you yell at Aiko"? His voice is low, a telltale sign he's upset.

"I- I don't know". You shake your head. "I was just surprised- I thought he hurt the bunny". It sounds stupid when you say it out loud.

"I don't like it when you yell at him okay"? Tamaki fixes you with a look. Your jaw sets.

"And you think I do? I felt awful. I feel awful". You run your fingers through your hair.

"He said he was scared of you y/n". Tamaki's eyes are serious. You shake your head, not wanting to believe it even though you know it's true, hating the way Tamaki is piling on. "Do you want that"? He's actually asking. You shake your head again. Of course you don't. Who would want that?

"Tamaki", you start, unable to convey your feelings in words.

"You have to be gentle with him. That's how parenting works". He kneels down in front of you where you sit on the sofa. Your head is bent, hair falling in a curtain around your face as he stares at you.

"I know", you say softly. "I know I know I know", you repeat, eyes starting to feel wet. "I know how fucking parenting works Tamaki". Anger seeps into your tone. You can only imagine the surprise that plays on Tamaki's face in response to your outburst. You couldn't care less. "I spend way more time with Aiko than you, okay Tamaki"? Your voice is accusatory. You hear him suck in a breath and you look at him, moving your hair to the side. He's looking down now, the carpet suddenly fascinating. "I'm basically a single parent because of how much you work". The muttered words come out charged and petty. You regret them immediately, holding your breath. Tamaki's eyes meet yours.

"I- I- I thought-" he stumbles over his words. You nearly mock him but decide you've crossed enough lines today. "That's not fair y/n", he finally says, tone even. "I spend as much time with him as I can while still financially supporting us". He's still kneeling in front of you.

"Sure Tamaki. But that doesn't give you any right to criticize my parenting. Kids cry. It's fine. You don't have to make me feel like a shitty mom because of it". You press your fingers into your temples, wanting desperately for this conversation to be over. Wanting desperately for Tamaki to hug you and say it's alright.

"You're not a shitty mom, y/n". His voice is soft. "I know you didn't mean to make him upset. I just- I got nervous". He bends his head forward until his forehead rests on your knees. You instinctively, card your fingers through his hair soothingly. "I feel like- I'm doing this all wrong", he mumbles into your skin. A tear rolls down your face.

"I think every parent feels like that", you say with a laugh. Tamaki probably knows you're crying from the sound of your voice but he doesn't comment or even look up.

"You're not a shitty mom", Tamaki repeats, voice earnest.

"You don't work too much", you say, nails dragging along Tamaki's scalp. He looks up at you, looking sadder when he sees your face is damp from tears.

"M' so sorry y/n". Tamaki's apologetic words are accompanied by him sitting beside you and wrapping an arm around your shoulders. You lean into his side, head resting on his chest as you pull your knees up to cuddle closer to him. He kisses the top of your head.

"I love you bunny", Tamaki whispers. You tilt your head up to look at him.

"I love you too Tama".
