You, Dark Pit, Viridi and Arlon landed into a deep forest full of magical creatures, a lot of them from the first trial. Then Viridi guided you to a shelter adorned with flowers and trees.
"This is headquarters. I'll allow Arlon to show you around. I'll also assign you as an officer, so you can go on missions with Dark Pit!"
"Cool- I mean, a-absolutely not!" said Dark Pit, clearly stumbling over his words. You raised an eyebrow at him, then realize you could absolutely use this as an opportunity to tease him.
"Aw, what's wrong? Lonely when you go on solo missions?"
Dark Pit crossed his arms and looked away. Your words were clearly getting to him. "Great. Now I have both you AND Phosphora to deal with."
You rolled your eyes playfully at his attempt to brush you off. "Come on. You saw my display of skill there. I think we'd be a great team."
"I'd rather work alone."
"Liar. What about you and Pit?"
"Ha! As if I'd like teaming up with him! He's got the IQ of a pile of rocks!"
"But you would team up with me, right?"
"No."
Viridi sighed. "That's too bad. With the lack of officers I have, you two will have to go on almost every mission together."
You nodded, a little excited to see what Viridi would have in store for you. Dark Pit, on the other hand, tried to look like he didn't like the idea. You noticed his expression and put an arm around him to try to cheer him up.
"C'mon! It will be fun!"
Dark Pit shook you off, teeth gritted. "Like I said, you're just like him."
That only reminded you of something. You removed your arm from Dark Pit's side and put both of them behind your back.
"Speaking of...I think you were right."
"Right? About what?"
"When I was flying through the course, Pit was nearby. I saw him peering at me after my battle with Arlon."
At those words, Dark Pit's eyes filled with dread.
"Oh no...if he found out you're on the surface, then Lady Palutena will find out soon."
You were surprised once again, at Dark Pit's concern for you. As if it couldn't get more sudden, he put your hands on your shoulders.
"We can't let them find you."
That silenced you completely. For a clone created by the mirror of truth, he seemed more caring than harsh, the opposite of Pit's cheery, energetic personality. You could only slowly, nod your head.
Dark Pit nodded back, letting go of your shoulders. He grabbed a bow lined with silver and blue, and went out the headquarters for some training exercise.
Phosphora then came up to you, unfastening your Chiton, leaving you in your tanktop and shorts.
"(y/n), I'll take this to the silk lake to get it fixed. Sorry about my teasing earlier."
Phosphora gave you a salute and zapped away. You then turned to Arlon.
"Care to show me around?"
Arlon nodded. "Of course, (y/n)."
He got off his seat and briefly lead the way through the place. There was an observation tower, a briefing room, a weapons chamber, map chamber, dorms, which Craglanche was already fixing up your own, and of course, the outside training area, where Dark Pit was at right now.
You thanked Arlon for the tour and decided you'd watch Dark Pit train, just for a little bit. You sat on the edge near the low balcony and observed his skill.
He was pretty adept hitting the targets set up in there, with quick speed and agility. You couldn't help but watch how impressive that was.
But then you heard a faint whisper in your head.
"She'll find you."
You blinked. You had no idea what that meant. But you tried to keep your focus and push it aside. Dark Pit finished his training, sighing right after his hard work. He turned back towards the door back to headquarters, where he saw you.
"Ah! (y/n!)"
He cleared his throat and looked away once again. Your eyebrows shot up at his reaction. Was that a hint of blush on his face?
"Oh...! Did I...startle you?"
"No, idiot. I've just never saw you without your chiton before."
You scratched the back of your head. "Ah, sorry about that. Phosphora's taking it to the silk lake to get it fixed."
"I see."
Dark Pit got up the stairs on the balcony to sit next to you. You both sat there for a while in tranquility, your legs swinging in the air while Dark Pit stayed still with his hand on his cheek. Then he broke the silence.
"So, I guess we'll be going on missions together, huh?"
"Yeah," you smiled, "It's kind of nice not being alone."
Dark Pit frowned. "I prefer solitude most of the time, thank you."
You looked towards the grass, sighing. "There's a difference between solitude and loneliness."
Dark Pit's gaze softened at you. Those words made his heart break. Of course, he never had your experience in the Underworld.
"I'm so sorry."
More silence. You scoffed.
"It's okay. I'm just glad you're here now."
"Tch. You're acting like you rely on me to help you with your struggles."
"You saved me, didn't you?"
Dark Pit chuckled at that. "Yes, yes I did. And you better be grateful for it."
"Of course I'm grateful for it! I risked my own life to get out of the Underworld! I could've died...I-"
You fumbled with your words before getting to a fine statement.
"I never got to thank you for it...!"
Dark Pit's eyes widened at your small outburst. The raven gave you a rare smile.
"I-it's nothing."
You couldn't help but smile back, as you wrapped an arm around Dark Pit in comfort.
Immediately, Dark Pit flushed at the close contact, but you didn't seem to notice as you basked in his warmth. Slowly, but hesitantly, Dark Pit wrapped an arm around you as well, as you both watched the leaves falling from the trees. You sighed comfortably, enjoying the moment for a little while.
Dark Pit seemed to be enjoying it too.
"So maybe I prefer solitude, but you're an exception." He said, rolling his eyes playfully, with a hint of sweetness.
You giggled at that remark. "I'm glad."
The two of you sat there for a little while, not paying attention to anything, so much that Phosphora calling your name made you both jump, almost immediately letting go of each other.
There was another silence. But instead of calm and serene, it was awkward. So awkward that the electric girl had to break it.
"What..."
"Don't." You interrupted.
Phosphora decided not to question your further, handing you your chiton.
"Those spiders were a pain to tame, you know. One of them would not let go of my leg!"
"Blame it on Arlon, not me."
You snatched the Chiton from Phosphora, who let out a pout in response.
"Also, Viridi's scheduling a briefing, so you better be prepared for your first mission together."
"Right, cool cool," Dark Pit responded, going back to his usual stance, "Let's just get this over with."
