"Whee~"
San looked at his wristwatch and sighed for the nth time that day. He stood in the center of the hallway, holding up a pair of baby blue trousers for his little one.
The said little one had his arms spread wide like wings, giggling with pure joy, making 'wee wee' sounds as he pretended to soar through the air like an airplane.
San covered his face with his hands. Both caregivers, San and Yunho, had decided to have a playdate at San's house, and San had already made all the arrangements. Not long ago, he received a call from Yunho telling him that little Mingi was up and that they would arrive soon. San mentally cursed himself for thinking it was a good idea to allow Wooyoung to have some candies-and to make it worse, giving him ice cream just minutes before his naptime. The results were now in front of him like one of his worst nightmares.
A hyperactive Wooyoung.
Just thinking about how he was going to manage Wooyoung throughout the day was already giving him a headache. His daze was cut off when the boy came crashing into him.
"Yee-b'oom!"
San had to grab onto the dining chair in front of him to keep from falling. He glared at the younger boy, who was sprawled on the floor, laughing his little butt off as if it was the funniest thing ever.
"Wooyoung!" San scolded the little one, whose laughter was now reduced to fits of giggles as he watched San while propping his neck upward, holding his tummy.
"Yunho and Mingi are going to be here very soon, and here you are running around, not even dressed decently!" San walked over to the little boy and grabbed both of his arms, pulling him up, suggesting that he should stand. But the little one was in no mood to be serious. He made no effort to stand, so, surrendering, San just let him be and dropped down to make him wear his pants. But as soon as he grabbed the little one's legs, Wooyoung started kicking and squirming.
"Stop it, Woo!"
"N'oh, 'Oongie no weaw pwants!" Wooyoung declared as he tried to crawl away, only to be pulled back into his caregiver's lap.
He screeched and thrashed in San's lap like a fish out of water, making it very hard for the elder to dress him.
Just when San had managed to get the pants halfway up, the doorbell rang.
"Wooyoungie~"
San's head snapped toward the door, and his grip loosened just enough for the little one to escape from his grasp. Wooyoung waddled away, his trousers slipping down.
"Dang, this boy!" San seethed, reaching out just in time to grab Wooyoung and secure the buttons of his pants.
He crouched down to meet Wooyoung at eye level and warned, "I want you to be on your best behavior, Youngie. I won't spare you if you cause any trouble today." He ran a hand through Wooyoung's hair to fix it, then straightened up to open the door.
"Sorry for keeping you guys waiting-"
"Maangi yahhh!"
"'Oongiiee yahhh!"
Both caregivers couldn't help but chuckle at the excitement between their little ones.
"Haha, that's fine, San-ah. It's been a while since we arranged a playdate for our little ones," Yunho said with a bright smile. San returned the smile and welcomed them inside.
San and Yunho chatted in the hall, while right in front of them, on the floor, was a fluffy rug where the little ones were playing. All of their toys, crayons, and coloring books were sprawled out. The caregivers could comfortably keep an eye on what was happening.
"Thwat's a 'ool cwar!" Wooyoung stared at the little red, shiny car that Mingi was playing with.
Mingi smiled brightly, rolling his car back and forth. "Thwis is Speedy!" he said, lifting it up and waving it around in the air. "Vwoom vwoom~" he giggled.
Wooyoung giggled too, but then a teasing glint appeared in his eyes. "Spweedy? Hah-it's vewy 'low," he said, playfully poking fun at the toy.
Mingi's smile faltered a bit as he held Speedy closer. "He's not 'low! He's fast!" he insisted, but Wooyoung, full of energy, was already reaching out.
"Let me see!" Without warning, Wooyoung grabbed Speedy from Mingi's hands and jumped to his feet, his mischievous grin widening as he waved the toy in front of Mingi and pulled it back whenever Mingi reached out to grab it.
"Hey! Give him back!" Mingi cried out, reaching for the toy.
San and Yunho noticed the sudden burst of energy. They started to speak up, ready to remind the boys not to run inside, when the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it," San said, standing up and heading toward the door.
"Wooyoung, Mingi, be careful-no running in the house!" Yunho warned, his tone gentle but firm.
"Ne," they responded.
Wooyoung paused briefly, glancing at Yunho, but his playful energy was hard to contain.
Meanwhile, Yunho glanced toward the door, noticing that San was taking longer than usual.
"Stay right here, boys. I'll be back in a second," Yunho said before heading to the door to see what was going on.
Left alone for just a moment, Wooyoung's playful energy surged back. He couldn't resist running around, imagining Speedy zooming through a race track.
Mingi, worried about his toy, chased after him, pleading, "Wooyoung, stwop! You'll bweak it!" As Wooyoung took a sharp turn around the coffee table, his foot caught on the corner of the rug. He crashed into Mingi, who stumbled, and Speedy flew out of Wooyoung's hand, skidding across the floor.
CRASH.
