Alvar's POV:
As soon as I got back to the headquarters I was immediately bombarded with questions. The main one being "How is she?"
"Do you want the beautiful lie? Or the painful truth?" Was my only response.
"Well that just broke my heart.." "What heart Gethen!?" "Shut up Brant! I have a heart!!" He yells before lunging at Brant. However before he could get a good hit in, I yelled out.
"Enough! This is not the time for fighting! We only have so much time before we're all dead!" It was dead silent after that.
"Alvar's right. We don't have the time for this.. We need to find a way to get them out of here. And save her as well as ourselves if possible." Trix said, sounding done with us.
I think that is the most I've ever heard him say in one go. We usually have to bribe him to even be in the room with us!
I didn't get to think much more about it with the group now all facing me again. "Trix is right. Be honest with us Alvar. How is she really?" As soon as Umber finished that question I was immediately looking back at the floor. Tears filling my eyes and slowly falling down my face. I can't even look at any of them.
"Please tell me she didn't.." Gethen didn't even have to finish his sentence for everyone to look at me with so much hope and fear all at the same time.
"No!.." I sigh still not looking at anyone. "No, she didn't.. But I'm going to be honest here.. I don't know how low she's going to be able to last."
"Can you describe how she looked? Maybe that might be able to help us.. Was 'she' there?" This time it was Glimmer that broke the silence.
I finally looked up, but still not looking at any of their faces.
"She looked so broken.. Lost even. I don't know how else to describe it.." Tears were still falling down my face, but this time mine wasn't the only one tear stained.
"Can you try?" Ruy all but whispered, looking so broken right now.
I take a deep shuddering breath and nod. "It looked to me like both Grady and Edaline had to physically pull her up to the others.. She was in the dress Glimmer picked out, the shoes and everything.." That got a small chair out of said girl and a small laugh from the rest of us.
"She had her hand in at least one of their hands at all times. To either help steady her, or to comfort her, I don't really know. My mom had to pull her into her chest after she almost fell when Edaline let her hand go.. I don't think she even realized the reason she was being held.."
A choked sob came from Glimmer with this information. Ruy and Trix both going over to help comfort her.
"It was almost as if she was just numb to everything around her. Almost like she was a robot going off of Ado-pilet.. She didn't so much as make a sound when everyone started shaking her hand and talking to the adults.. It wasn't until Tiergan went up to her and talked directly to her that she came back to reality.."
"So it was ten times worse than we originally thought it would be.." I got interrupted by Brant. I could only nod.
"I'm not really sure if she's been sleeping.. Hell, I don't think she's been eating either!" They all flinched at my outburst.
I sighed again. "We need to make this right. We can't keep them apart like this.. We need help. And we need it now." "Ruy's a hundred percent right. And I think I have just the thing."
And with that we all changed focus to Brant.
