Amanda

I changed into my nightgown as soon as I had my bath. I was in front of the dressing mirror when Gabriel entered the room.

For a reason I don't know, he was in the living room the whole time. I had to eat in the room. The food was served by his cook, Emily before she left for home. She made me understand she doesn't stay at Gabriel's home. The old lady also revealed that the arrogant man who owned the mansion doesn't like to live with anyone.

She wished me a happy married life. Old women! They don't ever stop chanting. I remained in the room till evening as it is. I do not plan to start a bond with people that will later betray me. It will be better to be alone in my world.

"This is my bedroom," Gabriel grunted.

"Then, where is mine? Your house is so big yet I have no room of mine. You are not serious about that." I remarked.

"I believe you don't think you are a guest of mine, do you?" Gabriel marched slowly towards me.

"Of course." I don't need to be a guest in his abode. I'm his wife now, whatever he had belonged to me.

"So when will you go back to where you came from?" Gabriel asked huskily as if he was just trying to send me packing.

Three months ago, Gabriel did try to seduce me. Men and betrayal are probably something everyone may not know how to tackle. Thankfully, I need no man's help including Gabriel.

"I don't know yet. I haven't just been able to adjust for the time being." I replied firmly. I sat carefully on the bed's edge then I crossed my legs over each other.

"What if you can't adjust all the time?" He queried as he dipped his right hand into his pocket.

What does he mean if I can't adjust? I'm not a stranger to the billionaire's world. It's only that fate had played a game of secrets, lies, and betrayal with me which led to only one aim left in my fate and that's revenge.

"Hold on! You can't do whatever you want to me because I forced you to marry me." I protested.

"Marriage?" He yelled.

"Yes, let's just say a marriage. It's a contract between me and you." I expressed as I crossed my arms over my chest.

Gabriel moved closer to me. He bent till his face was nearly into mine. His blue piercing eyes bore into mine and my throat nearly went dry.

"If so, what can you do for me?" Gabriel asked, his voice seductive just like he did the morning after I fell unconscious months ago.

"I don't know."

"Amanda, you are my wife. Everyone knows about our marriage. Dead or alive, you are mine." He said as his left finger trailed my cheek.

"It's a marriage contract, remember? Be mindful of where the movement of your hands takes you." I warned him, wincing forcefully.

He leaned in close again. His icy nose touched mine. My body vibrated a little as he said, "Really?"

"Yes!" I gulped before he slowly caressed my jaw.

"After five months when my revenge is completed, I will leave. I will be out of your life. Forever!"

"All good. Be warned, if you do anything to harm the Slade family, you will be harmed too since you are one of us, so think it over."

"I get it." I retorted. I know all that already. I have to be careful and I will.

"So, what's next in your revenge scheme?" His eyes watched me like a policeman on duty.

"We should mind each other's business. We shouldn't ask about each other; where we go, where we are coming from, whom we went to meet, and why we are doing whatever we are doing." I remarked.

"Just wanted to know for your well-being."

"You don't need to ask."

"Fine, Miss Amanda."

What the heck! He shouldn't call me such a name. I dislike such names. I rolled my eyes before I corrected him, "Mrs. Amanda Slade."

Gabriel laughed for a while. I knew he was mocking me but I chose to lay on the bed. I carefully wrapped the blanket over my body and shut my eyes.

When he was done with his disgusting attitude, I heard him close the bathroom door only for him to come out a while after. I felt his warm breath near my face when he whispered, "You're on my side of the bed."

Before I opened my eyes, he lifted me and dumped me on the floor. "What the hell are you doing?" I screamed.

"That's where you deserve to sleep. Do you think you forced me to sign a contract with you? It is the other way around, you are in my clutches. Do you remember the first time we were in this room together?"

My laugh filled the room and I had to stop when I felt my spit draining to the back of my throat. "You are such a fool. You think you are in control?"

I scampered to the bed stand where I left my mobile phone. I opened my messaging app and sent a file to Gabriel. "It would be better if you read the contract agreement. It is clearly stated that you and you will never have anything to do just like married couples do."

Gabriel tried to speak but I cut him off, "Not only that, on the third page, section two, it is clearly stated that you will sleep on the couch or the floor." I said before shoving him off.

I sat on the bed and threw two pillows and a blanket at Gabriel. "Please yourself, dear husband."

"Revenge makes people do foolish things," Gabriel said as he picked up the items I threw earlier. He spread on the floor and lay quietly.

I felt so happy seeing him lie on the floor. I shut my eyes ready to take a quiet night's rest but it was ruined when a phone buzzed.

"Who the hell owns that phone?" I demanded, angrily.

Gabriel answered the call. I thought I could get some sleep but I noticed the look on his face turned to an alarming one.

"Oh my God! I will be right there. Try to keep things under control. Stay with her." He said as he grabbed the jacket he left on the bed earlier and made his way to the door.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I inquired but he feigned ignorance.

"Ethan! Get the car keys." He yelled as soon as he left the room.

Who is she? Where is Gabriel going? And why did he look scared after he received the call?

My heart race increased at a high speed. It was then it dawned on me that something could have happened to his grandmother.

I gasped and covered my mouth with my palm. My contracted husband won't spare me.
