Gabriel's eyes flashed open before he struggled out of bed. He yawned continuously as he made his way to the bathroom door.
"Gabriel," Amanda called.
Gabriel turned only to see her walking slowly to his side. For a moment, he wondered if she was awake because he was damn sure when he rose from the bed, she was fast asleep.
"Good morning." Amanda greeted her, rubbing her eyelids.
"Morning, how was your night?" Gabriel asked, his tone a bit cold.
"I'm much better. I just want to say 'thank you' and..." Amanda paused then she kissed Gabriel sharply on his right cheek.
"And enter the bathroom first." Amanda giggled before closing the bathroom door.
Seconds turned to minutes as Gabriel stood in front of the bathroom door. Amanda had been in there for thirty minutes. He couldn't help but fantasize about bathing with her.
All he could picture was the night she revealed she was a virgin. How innocent she looked from her rude and sassy character.
Gabriel bit his lips before he slowly trailed his fingers on his stomach till they reached his chest. He was moving his hands downwards to his private part when the door flung open.
His vengeful witch came out and he was forced to stop his actions. Amanda stared at him knowing what he had in mind. She walked past him but stopped and bit her lower lips.
She pushed him into the bathroom before she mocked Gabriel, "Go do it in the toilet. Don't waste too much time." She smiled as she felt happier with her deed.
"How about you assist me?" Gabriel shouted from the bathroom though he felt quite embarrassed.
"Then, work towards it," Amanda screamed.
In no time, Amanda was dressed and ready for work. She exited the room while Gabriel was dressing in the closet. Emily smiled as she watched Amanda descend the stairs.
Emily rushed to assist Amanda with her bags. Amanda, drawn by the food's aroma, hurried to the dining room for breakfast which was already served by Emily.
Amanda was about to eat when she was stopped by Emily.
"What's wrong?" Amanda asked.
"You can't eat without your husband's present. It's the Slade family's tradition." Emily whined.
The old lady went on and on narrating how she had worked for the Slade family for years. She did not stop talking while Amanda was forced to listen. Despite the grin on Amanda's face, the old lady cared less.
Amanda shook her head in disbelief. She was taken aback by the old lady's attitude but she had no choice but to wait since she respected her.
A few minutes later, Gabriel descended the stairs looking stunning as usual. Emily stood and greeted Gabriel before she made her way to the kitchen. Amanda's eyes followed Gabriel's body as he walked to the dining room.
Gabriel's piercing blue eyes locked with Amanda's dark orbs when he said they should eat and not stare at each other.
Inside, Amanda repeatedly slapped herself against her cheeks. "Act fucking normal, you moron!"
They both ate in silence before they moved out of the mansion. Amanda nodded at Gabriel before she entered her car and Gabriel did the same.
After Amanda left home, she drove for a while before she parked her car at a nearby river. She breathed deeply before she alighted from the vehicle with a bunch of white flowers in hand. Slowly, she made her way to the riverbank.
Her eyes instantly filled with impending tears. She bent and placed the flower on the flowing water.
"Mom, I will take back everything that was once yours. I'm back now. Stronger, wiser, more determined, more courageous, tougher and quicker." Amanda said as she prevented tears from coming out of her eyes but it was a lie, they prickled down her cheeks. She clenched her fist gradually while she absorbed the pain.
When humans die, they get befitting burials but that was not the case with Amanda's mother, Mercedes. After the police released her corpse following an investigation, Marvin instructed his guards to dump it into the river.
They argued that morning before she left home. Amanda was fully aware of the fight but she thought it was common for couples to disagree on a particular issue.
Amanda had her dark orbs fixed on the flower she dropped in the water before a finger tapped her gently on the shoulders. Quickly, she wiped her face off and turned to see who it was. Her eyes widened and her gaze shifted to a cold one.
"Hello, stepsister, Amanda... or should I say fake Mrs. Slade?" Ava's dominant female voice rented the air.
Amanda chuckled, "As far as I can remember, I'm married to Mr. Slade. So, the name should be Mrs. Slade. What brings you here, Miss Green Snake under the green grass?"
"Don't act too smart for your age. I know you aren't fine. You are still mourning your mother who has been dead for five hundred days." Ava shook her head before she continued, "So sad! But what can be done? Nothing!"
Amanda heaved before she winced at Ava. "What are you doing here?"
"Can't I visit my stepsister? Most importantly after she went into hiding to strike like a bull. It's nice to finally meet you after you escaped death from my hands. Do you think there will be another opportunity?" Ava growled.
"As they say, one person's tragedy is another's entertainment. Everything bad may turn out to be a blessing one way or another and there is no limit to what I can achieve. In no time... I will make sure I crush you under my feet." Amanda said boldly staring at Ava in the eyes.
"Leave that. How are you still staying in Gabriel's mansion?" Ava asked, curious.
"Misery befriends misery, I guess!" Amanda answered.
"How sweet!" Ava commented. "Just say the fucking truth."
Amanda scuffed before a coquettish smirk appeared on her face. "Where there is profit, humans endeavor despite the pain. The same goes with me living with Gabriel because he's mine. And to cap it all, he loves me."
"Shut up! You're a liar." Ava yelled.
Amanda clicked her tongue and closed the gap between them. "Very soon, I will throw you out on the street. From. Grace. To. grass."
"I've had enough. Go meet your mother. Tell her 'thank you' on my behalf." Ava, provoked by Amanda's last words, pushed her into the river knowing fully well that Amanda couldn't swim.
Amanda yelled severally as she battled to save herself. Tears streamed down her face while Ava's laughter echoed through the mountains.
After continuous failed attempts from Amanda, she shut her eyes as her body sank underneath the water.
