Ethan jolted awake, his eyes widening as he saw enormous, insect-like creatures looming over his bed. He let out a terrified scream, and the creatures hurriedly scuttled out of the room. He spent the rest of the night shivering under his covers, desperately hoping it had all been a nightmare.

The next morning, there was a soft tapping at his door. Summoning his courage, Ethan opened it to find one of the creatures gently setting down a plate of fried breakfast on the floor before retreating to a safe distance. Confused but curious, he picked up the plate. The creatures chittered with what seemed like excitement.

This became a daily ritual. At first, Ethan was terrified that they were trying to fatten him up for some sinister purpose. But after one particularly greasy breakfast left him with severe heartburn, the meals shifted to fresh fruit and lighter fare. The creatures didn't stop there—they also filled hot baths for him and even tucked him in at night. It was bewildering and unsettling, but they seemed to mean no harm.

One night, Ethan was startled awake by the sound of gunshots and frantic screams. He rushed downstairs and was horrified to see the decapitated body of an intruder being devoured by the insect creatures. The sight made him gag, but he understood—they were protecting him. He cleaned up the gruesome remains as best he could, trying to reassure himself that the creatures had acted in his defense.

But then, one morning, they wouldn't let him leave his room. Confused but still trusting, Ethan allowed them to guide him back to bed. Whatever their motives, they had never hurt him before.

Hours passed, and then the pain began—a burning agony that spread through his entire body, like shards of glass were tearing him apart from the inside. Ethan writhed and gasped as the insects gathered around him, their chittering growing louder. He suddenly felt a horrific squirming beneath his skin, and a dreadful realization struck him.

The creatures hadn't been protecting him. They had been protecting their young.
