CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE: RAFE

It was the next day, and Emma woke up to countless calls from her friends. She rubbed her eyes as she sat up from the couch on the porch, having slept on the first comfortable place to lay her eyes on.

She checked her phone and saw a couple of texts on the Pogue groupchat.

Emma sighed, groaning as she looked at the time. It was now 9:02AM. She wished she could've woken up earlier. But she didn't think she missed that much, so she decided to call JJ as she went to her bedroom to get ready.

She dialed his number and he soon enough, he picked up the phone. "Hello? JJ," Emma spoke as she held the phone up to her ear.

"Morning. You sleep like you're in a coma." JJ uttered over the phone, and she heard the sound of a car door shutting.

"I know," she chuckled and walked to her wardrobe, pulling out a pair of shorts and a white top. "Anyway, did you guys get the gun?"

"No, we arrived, though— by the marsh. We think the gun was washed into the gully, and if not, then it's probably in the drain."

Emma hummed in response as she put the pair of shorts on. "Alright. I'll be on my way soon, okay?"

"Okay. Bye, Em." With that, he hung up.

She was finally done putting her clothes on and she walked outside. Her eyes wandered around, wondering how she could even get there because she had no idea where the Twinkie was. She then found JJ's motorbike, as if it was calling her name, like a sign. The solution to all of her problems that required moving from place to place.

She hopped on it and revved the engine, riding it towards the marsh. Her mind began to drift to Rafe, though. What if this was their last step into arresting him? She knew she shouldn't feel guilty because he did kill someone, but God, she so terribly did. She hated the effect he had on her. The way he did many wrong things, and the way she still felt sorry.
