It was a very busy day, and I'm so tired that I'm thinking of postponing today's dinner plan. But again, I checked his texts, 'The arrangements are already being made.' I pause to think, what could mean 'arrangements'? A simple dinner at Beanstalk Cafe typically required no such requirements. Curiosity and fretfulness consumed me as I was in a complete mess in my room, where clothes lay strewn about. I'm confused as to what to wear tonight. His message offered no insight into the purpose behind our dinner, and I assumed it to be a formal occasion, given our successful six-month journey with Malik's. At least, that's how it appeared to me. I call Zahra without a second thought; she picks up after 3 rings.

"Done with your busy day, baby girl?" she sounds slumped, yet energetic for a weekend, I don't know how she does that.

"Oh come on, I had only today to complete that work," I replied. "Anyways, what are you doing? No weekend plans?" I ask impatiently.

"Don't ask me that! I can't take my anger out on you, but your so-called business partner doesn't have time to take me out for dinner on the weekend. And I'm sure that I heard him mentioning that he has already planned it with someone else tonight. I'm so angry with him, this is not done!"

That's Zahra, once she starts to speak, she doesn't stop.

""And to top it off, he was up all-night playing basketball with the entire security staff who were on their week off. Their laughter and shouting kept the entire household awake. And now he's angry at everyone for not waking him up after he slept like a baby, and his door was locked from within! Does that make any sense?"

I couldn't say anything in reply, I was embarrassed. The cause of my friend's annoyance was me, and she was blurting it all on me, unknowingly. This was becoming so awkward. And if she comes to know anytime that i was with him for dinner, she'd be so... I don't know and I can't imagine that.

"Are you there? Or am I talking to my phone?" I snap out of my thoughts.

"Umm, yes I'm listening. Did he inform you where he's going?"

"Not at all, and I'm not interested. I just decided to watch a movie anyway. You wanna come, join in?"  She asks enthusiastically. I look at the mess in my room, contemplating a reply.

"Actually, I'm... um... Cleaning up my room. You know, I like to clean my own space," I say as it was partially true.

"Okay, carry on. Have a good night!" she says.

"Byee!" I try to sound enthusiastic.

I kept my mobile back, and sighed. I don't know how I'm going to face this.

I opt for an off white, modest rib-knit dress that goes down below my knees, paired with the black long one-button shrug. For the hijab, I chose a beige scarf that complimented my overall look. As for the footwear, I settled on black low heels. To enhance the overall aesthetic, I kept the makeup subtle and natural. By the time I got dressed, it was already 7.30 PM. I gave myself one last once-over, hoping I hadn't overdressed. I grabbed my bag and left.

As the distance lessens, my anxiety intensifies, causing time to appear to accelerate. Beanstalk Cafe comes into view, and something seems different about it. I can see the lights over the rooftop. Maybe some special arrangement is being made for some VIPs. But why would someone choose Beanstalk for a special night? There are more luxurious restaurants and cafes around the city, but not that Beanstalk is any less. It's my favorite of all times. Aesthetic, cozy and creating a homely atmosphere. I park my car and call him. He picked up on the second ring.
