Daneen
Amidst overwhelming joy, I found myself unable to contain the happiness bubbling within me. Following Mahir's departure, I danced in sheer excitement, his commanding presence lingering in my thoughts—his penetrating gaze, authoritative voice, and reassuring grip on my hands all giving rise to a flutter of butterflies in my stomach.
In an unexpected turn of events, all the anxiety, uncertainty, and self-loathing that had consumed me suddenly dissipated. I'm surprised by his energy, the ability to make me persuade so easily, something that my parents couldn't do since last year.
Shortly after, Zahra called, and my unrestrained giggles accompanied her animated account of Mahir's confession about his feelings for me. Her infectious happiness deepened my sense of gratitude, and her enthusiasm for our upcoming shopping spree filled me with anticipation. The prospect of exploring a myriad of outfits, as per Zahra's suggestions, fueled my eagerness for the approaching day. We concluded our call, promising to meet for breakfast the next morning.
As I lay in bed, making an effort to quiet my mind, I reflected on the journey ahead—a journey marked by a readiness to embrace a new chapter with Mahir. Tomorrow, a pivotal day awaited, demanding a serious conversation with my parents about our decision. While their surprise was inevitable, I held the firm belief that their happiness for us would ultimately prevail. Recognizing the need to prioritise this discussion, I resolved to take a leave from work. Tomorrow promised to be a day filled with important conversations and bustling preparations.
As I woke up, events of yesterday flashed through my mind and the realisation struck that I had yet to visit my parents. Hastily, I rose from bed and went through my morning routine, eager to make the most of the day. I called Zahra to confirm my breakfast plan, but she didn't pick up my calls. Frustrated, I decided to head out and pick her up from her place.
As I opened the door to leave, I was filled with surprise, warmth and happiness. I loved the very moment, my eyes filled with happy tears.
A grand bouquet greeted me, my mom and dad awaited with triumphant smiles on their faces. Mahir had already informed them about our decision and their reactions were vividly displayed on their faces. Overwhelmed with joy, I embraced both of them tightly, and behind them stood Mahir, his expression tender and supportive.
"I'm so happy for you, Daneen. May Allah bless you with all the happiness and love in the world," my mom expressed, tears brimming in her eyes. My dad, kissing my forehead, added a touch of humour, saying, "This boy will have to face the consequences if he makes you sad even for a second," eliciting laughter from us all.
Mahir responded with confidence, maintaining eye contact with me, "I will be at your service sir, if that happens. But I can assure you, in my presence, your daughter will never go through any kind of pain or stress," earning a smile from me.
My mom playfully remarked, "I am confident that he can never make my daughter cry. Now can we enter the house or are we discussing everything here itself?"
"Please come in," I invited, marking the beginning of a new chapter with the support and blessings of those dearest to me.
Days flew by in a whirlwind of non-stop shopping, trials, and intense preparations as Mahir set a date that loomed dangerously close. Rest was a luxury we could hardly afford amid the bustling activity. The engagement venue was a lavish penthouse, surrounded by our close friends and family.
For this special day, I chose to embrace my Indian culture, adorning a beautiful beige gharara that reflected simplicity and elegance. I opted for understated jewellery to complement the overall look.
