-- Part II--
Mahir
Her eyes on the sky and mine on hers. The fireworks painted the sky, but the beauty standing by the window was more charming than any other thing in the whole wide world. Her eyes glistened with moisture and her cheeks adorned with a subtle tint. The colors of the fireworks danced on her skin, she glowed differently. I could see the rise and fall of her breaths as she took in the captivating and stunning explosions in the blue yonder. If I waited for one more second there, I'd do something that would destroy my plans. So I left and gave her time for herself.
All the way home I had this stupid grin that I couldn't wipe off my face. I was happy, after a very long time. The last time was when I met my little sister after searching for her my whole life, and now I'm happy when I found the reason to live my life. I felt content and complete.
This was possible only with the help of Zahra. She got the keys from Daneen's parents and meticulously arranged everything according to my instructions. The process was time-consuming, involving a lengthy video call where I patiently guided her through the steps, despite occasional misunderstandings. I had to be very patient dealing with all this, because I could feel it slipping away.
Confessing my feelings about Daneen to my little sister felt way more awkward and I couldn't believe myself when I felt uncertain and afraid of how she'd react to it, despite me being her elder brother. Rehearsing every line I intended to convey became a somewhat tedious necessity. However, to my immense relief, she didn't make the situation awkward; instead, her face lit up with joy upon hearing my confession. Witnessing her happiness with my decision brought me great satisfaction, and she even encouraged me to propose to Daneen without delay. Grateful for this moment, I hugged her, feeling a mix of relief and gratitude. I gave a quick kiss on her forehead and left to gather everything required. I made her promise to zip her lips regarding this and she agreed to it.
It's a Sunday, but I was so restless and nervous that I couldn't concentrate on anything. So I decided to go to my office to keep myself busy. I had to sneak out of my own house because I never worked on Sundays and that would make my uncle suspicious. So I asked the guards to inform him that I'm with my friends. I know that's not fair but I'll let him know when the time comes.
I felt peace here, it was my sanctuary. And now that no-one's here, it was quieter than ever. Without wasting any time, I climbed up the elevator and pressed the button to my floor.
As soon as I reached there, I removed my jacket and set it on the stand beside my chair. Exhaling a breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding; I ran my hands over my face, feeling the weight of distress. This was not at all helping me, nothing I did could distract me. I walked to the balcony where me and Daneen had our first meeting. I could see that she loved it here, it was visible in her eyes. Closing my eyes, memories of that day flooded my mind, and for a moment, I felt her presence beside me.
My phone started to ring, waking me up from my reverie. I threw my head back in annoyance, wondering who it might be.
It was the watchman, he only called me when there was some unexpected guest. I picked up the call without a second thought.
"Hello, sir. Ms. Mirza is heading upstairs. She didn't seem well and was in a hurry. I informed her that you were in your office." He informed me in one breath without a break.
"Okay, thank you so much Kaleem. Did you stop her from entering the gate?" I asked.
"No sir, not at all. Why would I do that?"
