Once her parents and grandfather retired to their respective rooms, she asked her grandmother if they could talk a little more. She didn't seem to feel like sleeping yet, so she gladly accepted. When they were sitting in the room, Sarah began to talk to her about her biology classes, she told her that they were seeing how sometimes cells began to reproduce in greater numbers than normal, so tumours began to form that later developed into cancer. Her grandmother listened carefully to everything she said and, from time to time, asked questions. It seemed that the subject was interesting to her, so Sarah took the opportunity to tell her that her teacher had suggested that, at least once a year, they go to the doctor for tests, just as a preventive measure and mentioned that she should ask for a blood or whole-body study the next time she went to the doctor.
Her grandmother replied that she would take it into account, but that she did not see it necessary since she felt well and did not like the idea of having her blood drawn and totally discarded the idea of a full body check-up. Sarah knew that it would not be easy to convince her grandmother to go for a medical check-up, she knew very well what her grandmother thought of hospitals, they were her least favourite place in the world and she only went to the doctor when there was no other option. Sarah didn't think it was prudent to keep insisting, so she nodded, gave her grandmother a kiss and a hug and they said goodbye to go to sleep.
When Sarah returned to her present, she was exhausted. She didn't know how many attempts it would take to convince her to go to the doctor, but she wasn't about to give up. The next day her parents had promised to teach her some dance steps from the 80's, so they were gathered in front of the TV in the living room, "Smalltown Boy" by Bronski Beat was playing on the speakers, suddenly her parents began to move their feet and arms synchronized with the rhythm of the music, Sarah could not help but laugh, had never seen them dance to that kind of music, Mrs. Rachel told her to pay attention so she could dance well at her graduation. After many more songs, the three of them were already dancing as if they were in a nightclub at that time.
It's been a long time since they've had fun this way and it was refreshing for the 3 of them to find themselves in this way, laughing and enjoying some nice family time. The last song that was played was "Thriller" by Michael Jackson that was perfect with the autumn weather that was felt outside. All morning, they were dancing, so when the afternoon came they were exhausted, but all with shiny smiles on their faces. Mrs. Rachel then announced that she was going to prepare something to eat and Sarah followed her into the kitchen. I wanted to ask her if she had ever managed to convince her grandmother to do or let her do something, when she was a teenager. The answer her mother gave her was not what she expected, Mrs. Rachel confessed that her mother was someone with a strong character and that it was difficult to convince her to do something if she believed that her reason was the right one.
That put Sarah off a bit because she wasn't very good with words, so she wasn't sure how she would manage to convince her grandmother. Her grandmother could be foolish at times, but so was Sarah. She would wait until Sunday night to make another trip back in time, she could not risk doing it during the day and being discovered. In addition, she had met her friends to go buy more things for graduation, because apparently in the 80's there was no limit to how many bracelets you could wear on one arm or how fluffy your hair was.
When she returned that Sunday with the shopping bags her parents were in the living room watching a movie with Tom Cruise, Sarah joined them for a while and then retired to her room to arrange what she had bought. He took advantage of the fact that his parents were watching the movie to take the watch and move the hands. When he finished, he realized that he was at his grandparents' house, to be more precise, in the guest room. He walked to the calendar that hung on the opposite wall and saw the day and year that were marked. It was May 2022, Easter vacation, which she had spent at her grandparents' house. From the kitchen came the aroma of the soup that her grandmother was preparing. She was Sarah's favorite, her grandmother's seasoning had something that no other person could match. The soup was made with tomato, garlic, onion, salt and cumin, they were not unusual ingredients, but it was still the best soup Sarah had ever had.
