"No, that's unfair..." I laugh softly, my voice tinged with playful frustration as Sethos guides me further forward. His hand is firm but gentle, his other resting against my lips, silencing my protests as I try once again to pry his hands off my face.
"Patience," he whispers, his breath warm against my ear. "I promise, it'll be worth it."
He had insisted on taking me out on a surprise date after everything that had happened yesterday, adamant that I keep my eyes covered. I oblige, but the anticipation is making me restless. I've never been a fan of surprises — they usually end up being more disappointing than exciting. But with Sethos? It's different. I trust him, and even though I hate not knowing what's going on, I can't help but feel a sense of giddiness bubbling up inside me.
"Please~" I ask again, this time with a bit more playfulness, hoping to wear him down. But instead of answering, Sethos lets out a soft chuckle, and suddenly, his hand gently presses over my lips.
"Shhh," he murmurs, the touch silencing me instantly. His fingers are warm, soft, and I can feel the thrum of his heartbeat through them. It's oddly intimate, and I fall silent, my heart skipping a beat as I surrender to the moment.
We walk a little further, his hands guiding me carefully, ensuring I don't trip or run into anything. The sounds around us have changed; the bustling noise of the city has faded, replaced by a softer hum of life. The scent of fresh greenery and flowers fills the air, and I can hear the gentle rustling of leaves, the occasional chirp of birds.
"Okay," Sethos says quietly, his voice full of excitement. "Almost there. Just a few more steps."
I feel the ground beneath my feet change, softening from pavement to something more natural, and a breeze rustles through my hair, cool and refreshing. There's something peaceful about this place, wherever it is, and my curiosity grows. What has Sethos planned?
"Ready?" he asks, his hands finally slipping away from my face.
I nod, and slowly, I open my eyes.
The sight before me takes my breath away. We're standing in a small clearing, surrounded by towering trees that sway gently in the wind. A blanket is spread out on the grass, covered in an assortment of food, with soft, flickering lanterns casting a warm glow over the entire setup. It's a picnic — but not just any picnic. The setting feels magical, like something out of a dream, with the perfect blend of natural beauty and thoughtful details.
"A- am I dreaming?" I chuckle, completely baffled. "Just... when did you have time for that??"
Sethos grins, clearly pleased with my reaction. "Maybe I have some secret talents," he teases, a playful glint in his eyes as he steps closer. "I wanted it to be perfect for you."
I shake my head in disbelief, still trying to process the scene in front of me. "Seriously, though. When did you even find time to do all of this? I barely let you out of my sight," I laugh, taking in the thoughtful arrangement—the lanterns flickering softly, the food carefully laid out, the serene beauty of the clearing. Holy shit.
"Let's just say I had a little help," he says, winking. "And a lot of determination."
I turn to look at him, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. "You really didn't have to go through all this trouble," I murmur, my voice softening.
Sethos steps even closer, his hand reaching for mine as he pulls me gently toward the blanket. "I wanted to," he says quietly, his tone shifting to something more serious. "After everything... I just wanted to give you something special, something to remind you that there's more than just the dark stuff we've been through lately."
