Kanika
It has been almost five hours to that conversation with Ishaan, and I am still quivering.
I had never imagined in my barest dreams that I would come across him like this. But there was one good outcome from it; there were so many things I had wanted to tell him once, and I did today. It was by far the most awaited closure I required.
'your blood pressure is optimal now, no need to worry. you may come again on Tuesday for the remaining tests.', I say to the patient in front of me giving her the reports, and she stood up to leave.
I glanced at my watch and it was 2 pm already. Ishaan would be gone by now.
'Hey, busy doctor! Time for lunch?!', Erwin emerges from the door with a lunchbox in his hand. He was a senior resident and my only good friend here by far.
'yeah, coming.'
We sit at the canteen with our plates. The hospital food is not that good but enough to keep you alive.
'so, who was that guy earlier?' Erwin asks, chewing on his sandwich.
'Ex-boyfriend', I decided to go with the truth. I wanted to know his opinions on this. Because now I somewhat feel guilty about saying those things to Ishaan. Maybe I was too rude.
'oh.', Erwin looked speechless. He still asked further, 'you guys seemed to be in an intense talk, was he apologizing?'
'Yeah. He was...', I was about to continue when my phone rang. I took it out and saw Abhishek calling.
'yes, abhi?'
'are you free later today? I need your help with something.' he said from the other side.
'I will be available after about three hours. Is that okay?'
'perfect. I'll pick you up at 6', he said and hung up.
'Dr. Arnold just texted me, he is waiting for us in his cabin.', Erwin says as I put the phone down. We headed towards his office.

'I recieved a letter just now. The family has filed a case against the hospital on pretext of medical negligence. The hearing is on tuesday.', Dr. Arnold informs us with a heavy heart.
Due to the wrong prescriptions of insulin dosage, the patient had suffered hypoglycemia, which led to unconsciousness, and he fell down in the restroom yesterday, leading to a head injury.
Now the victim's family had filed a case of medical negligence against it. Today's day is indeed not going well.'The board of directors have given me time till monday morning to clear this by talking with the patient's family. Otherwise...my license may be suspended.'
'what?!', Erwin exclaimed in anger. 'how can they leave you all alone like this?'.
Medical negligence is something that would strongly effect the hospital's reputation negatively. No one would want to go to a hospital that has careless doctors. It was obvious that the board is concerned. Dr. Arnold had made a mistake which was almost unforgivable.
'all of this is my fault.', he shook is head in grief.
