13.You're Our Leader

Connor had been welcomed back with open arms and warm smiles mainly from Cassie and M'gann; turns out that they managed to beat Mr. Twister all on their own to the point that Cassie had crushed the robots head out of suspicious, one could never be too careful of what the enemy may have in store for them and as for Gwen. Connor had called Batman down from the Watchtower and asked to speak to him in private so that they could discuss it

"I can understand why you'd be suspicious of her. But I can personally vouch for Gwen, if there some off chance that she is working against us then I'll be the first one to stop her"

Now under any other circumstance if anyone else on the team had asked this, they would have gotten an immediate 'no' but given what Batman had put Connor these last few days and the strong moral he had brought to the team of recently banded sidekicks; the Dark Knight reluctantly agreed and told Connor to keep a close eye on her and that he was responsible for everything she did

Batman:Don't make me regret this, Superboy

Batman held out his hand towards Connor as he reached out and shook as he reassured the Dark Knight that he had this under control; for now Gwen was going to stay inside the cave until the others could properly adjust to her being in here with them

Connor parts from their handshake and walks out of the room as he sees Gwen sitting idly by and of course with Wally talking to her most likely trying to drop a couple of flirty comments here and there; Connor approached them both just to hear Gwen say the following

Gwen:Look. I'm flattered, I really am. But you're just not my type so please just stop..

Gwen turned her head and saw Connor has already got here and she gave him a pleading look for him to step in and help her get out of this as Connor put his arm around Wally's shoulder

"Wally. C'mon she's made herself clear, I am sure but somewhere out there is a girl just for you. A little spitfire waiting for her red haired guy"

Wally sighed seeing his extraordinary flirting skills weren't going to land him any points as the speedster mentioned something to Connor

Wally:Man this is not fair. How come you get all the babes? First it was Atlee then it was M'gann and Cassie now its the cute new girl! How do you do it? Is some kind of kryptonian power we don't know about?

Gwen's eyes widen hearing just how many girls that Wally had listed off, Connor on the other hand just laughed it off and patted Wally on the shoulder

"Trust me. If that was a power then I would have a girlfriend by now. I'm just a likable person, speed isn't everything remember that"

Yet for some very odd reason, Connor felt like that his 'charm' was playing a role in this even if it was unnoticed by everyone else; Connor remembered it having some effect on Cassie when he was going to take her to meet the team but he had to answer that question later alas the intercom rings out as Batman calls out to the team to meet up for their next mission with the exception of Gwen

Batman:Isla Santa Prisca. This island nation is the primary source of a dangerous and illegal neosteroid--a strength enhancing drug sold under the street name 'Venom'

Batman pulls up a holographic map up of the island and the contents of the enhanced drug; out of the corner of Connor's sight he could see Wally eating a bag of potato chips due to his metabolism

Batman:Infrared heat signatures indicate their factory is still operating at full capacity, but all shipments of Venom have been inexplicably cut off. This is where the team comes in, this is a covert recon mission only. Observe and report, if the Justice League needs to intervene then it will

Batman waves his hand showing two drop zones which would consist of Aqualad dropping at one so that he could patch through the comms and surveillance and the rest of them heading the other one alas one question remained to one everyone was thinking as Robin asked it

Robin:So, who's in charge?

Red Tornado who had been by Batman's side the entire time but remained quiet throughout the briefing looks at Batman and then back at the team and finally speaking

Red Tornado:That is for you to decide amongst yourselves

Connor couldn't help but notice the glance that the Dark Knight gave him as the two Justice League members walked off to discuss other matters within the league; the room had gotten quiet because no one really knew who they were going to choose as their leader, Wally being Wally opened his mouth but Cassie stopped the speedster and shook her head 'no'

Wonder Girl:Guys let's be honest here, we all have our reason for wanting to be leader. While we all have our own experiences going at it solo, we need someone who we can all trust to make the right moves out there and not leave us behind

Connor was actually impressed by how diplomatic Cassie was being but then again she must have picked up a couple of things from Diana especially with all that time she had spent with her

Cassie:Which is why I say that it should be Superboy who leads this team

Everyone immediately turns and looks at the clone of steel, Robin and Aqualad take this time to reflect back when this all began at Cadmus; how he took charge in that time and it was actually because of him that they were able to avoid unnecessary danger

Cassie:We all know him and trust him. He has more experience than us not to mention, he brought almost all of us together

Even Wally who wanted so desperately to be leader for obvious reasons couldn't help but agree with Cassie, Robin smirked and nodded his head seeing her point

Robin:It was so obvious! Why did I think of that? Dude if there's anyone we trust to lead us, it's you big guy

Connor turned to Cassie who was just smiling at him seeing how she got everyone to collectively agree with her; that was just some of persuasive power that she held

Kaldur:I agree with Robin. During our time in Cadmus, it was you that led us through it. I truly believe that is you who is more suitable for the role of leader

Connor puts his hand on his chin and thinks on how the team wasn't fully in sync during their time together until they had to pull their shit together, having knowledge of this universe could be very beneficial to everyone in the future; it could lead them not only improve on their individual skills but as a whole team

Robin:So what do you say, Superboy? Want to lead this team?

Connor faintly chuckled and looked back up at everyone as they could see he had already made his mind; the strongest amongst them was now their leader still all that awaited them was the stealth mission before them, Connor couldn't change too much but he could do enough for it pass through as leader
