After three weeks of intense studying and preparing for exams, prom night had finally arrived at Merlin Academy. The excitement around the school was palpable, with everyone talking about their plans for the evening. Bridget, however, had a different kind of plan—and it involved a secret she had to keep from one of her closest friends.
Ella had been asking her all week about her prom plans, and now, on the day of the event, she was at Bridget's dorm room door, insisting they talk.
Bridget opened the door to find Ella standing there, arms crossed, an expectant look on her face. "You're not going to prom?" Ella asked, her voice full of disbelief.
Bridget shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "Yeah, I don't know, it just doesn't feel like my thing this year. I figured I'd just skip it."
Ella's brow furrowed as she stepped inside, her eyes scanning Bridget suspiciously. "That's not like you at all, Bridget. You've been talking about prom for weeks, and now you're suddenly not going?"
Bridget bit her lip, searching for the right words. "I've just got a lot going on. Exams, personal stuff... You know how it is."
Ella wasn't convinced. "I don't buy it. There's no way you'd miss prom without a really good reason. Are you sure you're not hiding something?"
Bridget forced a smile, shaking her head. "I promise, it's nothing. You go have fun, okay? I'll just hang out here and relax."
Ella looked at her for a long moment, clearly torn. "I just think it's weird. It's not like you to miss out on something like this."
Bridget felt a pang of guilt, knowing that she was keeping a huge secret from Ella. But she couldn't risk letting her friend know the truth—not when everything hinged on her plan working.
"Trust me, it's fine," Bridget said gently. "You'll have an amazing time, and I'll be fine here."
Ella sighed, finally relenting. "Okay, but if you change your mind, I'm sure I can find you a last-minute dress. Just... don't miss out on a great night, alright?"
Bridget nodded, her heart pounding as Ella left the room. As soon as the door clicked shut, she exhaled a deep breath of relief. She had dodged the conversation—for now. But soon, she'd have to get ready for the real event: attending prom as Hook's mystery date.
With her blonde hair and a carefully chosen mask, Bridget was ready to step into a night of secrets and intrigue. And if everything went as planned, no one—not even Ella—would know it was her.
As soon as Ella left, Bridget rushed to her bathroom, glancing at herself in the mirror one last time. Her bright pink hair, usually a signature part of her look, was about to change. She took a deep breath, knowing this was the only way to stay under the radar for prom.
She pulled out the box of blonde hair dye she had hidden in her room and got to work. As she applied the dye, the excitement mixed with nerves. This was a huge risk, but it was also thrilling. Hook was counting on her to make this work, and she was determined not to let him down.
