The next day during lunch, Bridget sat down next to Ella in the bustling dining hall. She was still feeling the weight of her thoughts from the night before, trying to make sense of everything that had happened. Ella seemed more at ease, perhaps believing that their talk had brought Bridget back to her senses.

But just as Bridget was starting to relax, she heard a familiar, mocking voice behind her.

"Well, if it isn't our favorite cupcake girl," Uliana sneered as she approached their table. Her entourage, including Hook, followed closely behind, their expressions filled with anticipation of whatever torment Uliana had planned.

Bridget tensed, feeling Ella shift uncomfortably beside her. She braced herself, trying to appear unfazed, but the anxiety gnawed at her insides.

"What's wrong, Bridget?" Uliana continued, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "No flamingo cupcakes for us today? Or did you finally learn your lesson?"

Ella shot a glare at Uliana but remained silent, clearly wary of escalating the situation. Bridget, however, couldn't ignore the sting of Uliana's words, especially with Hook standing right there, watching.

She glanced at Hook, hoping to see some sign of the person she'd shared a moment of understanding with. But to her dismay, Hook was smirking, standing by Uliana's side like nothing had ever happened between them. It was as if their conversation in the courtyard, their tentative attempts to bridge the gap, had never occurred.

"Hook?" Bridget's voice was barely above a whisper, a mix of hurt and disbelief. She searched his face for any hint of the friend she thought he could be.

But Hook didn't even flinch. Instead, he crossed his arms and leaned against the table, a lazy grin on his face. "What's the matter, Bridget? Can't take a joke?"

Bridget's heart sank. His words cut deeper than any of Uliana's barbs. It was like he had turned on her completely, choosing to mock her alongside Uliana as if they had never shared that moment of understanding.

Ella, noticing Bridget's distress, placed a protective hand on her arm. "Let's just go, Bridget," she urged quietly, her voice tense.

But Bridget couldn't move. She felt frozen in place, torn between anger and sadness, watching as Hook, who she had hoped might be different, laughed along with Uliana's cruel jabs.

Uliana, sensing the vulnerability in Bridget's silence, pressed on. "See? Even Hook knows where his loyalties lie. Maybe you should have thought twice before trying to befriend people who are out of your league."

Ella stood up, pulling Bridget with her. "Come on, Bridget. They're not worth it."

Bridget let herself be guided away, her heart heavy with the realization that whatever fragile connection she thought she had with Hook was gone. He had chosen his side, and it wasn't hers.

As they left the dining hall, Bridget couldn't shake the image of Hook's indifferent expression from her mind. Ella's words from the night before rang louder than ever—Hook and she shouldn't have been friends in the first place.
