DINNER PLANS

After decades of friendship, it doesn't seem possible, but she realizes she won't ever speak to her best friend again. Explain why.

Dion had been best friends with Maya since they were in kindergarten. They had gone through everything together, from first crushes to first heartbreaks, from high school prom to college graduation. But now, as she sat staring at her phone, Dion realized that she might never speak to Maya again.

It had all started with a small disagreement over dinner plans. Dion had suggested they try a new Thai place in town, but Maya insisted on going to their usual spot. They argued about it for a few minutes, but eventually, Maya gave in and agreed to try the new place.

The dinner itself was uneventful, but on the way home, Maya brought up the argument again.

"I can't believe you wanted to go to that Thai place," she said. "You know I don't like trying new things."

Dion rolled her eyes. "Come on, Maya, we've been going to that same Italian place for years. I thought it would be fun to try something different."

Maya didn't respond, and Dion assumed that was the end of it. But the next day, she received a text message from Maya that made her heart sink.

"I don't think we should be friends anymore," it read.

Dion was confused and hurt. She tried calling Maya, but she didn't pick up. She sent her a message asking for an explanation, but all she got in response was, "I just can't do this anymore."

Days turned into weeks, and Dion still hadn't heard from Maya. She tried reaching out a few more times, but there was no response. Finally, she realized that their friendship was over.

Dion couldn't believe it. After all, they had been through together, a small disagreement about dinner plans had ended their friendship. But she knew that sometimes, things just don't work out the way you want them to, and that's okay. She would always cherish the memories they had shared, but it was time to move on.
