From up here everything looks small.
Black smoke floods the cockpit.
Thoughts of you flood my mind.
All I see is you at the end of it all.
My Moon.
My orders were simple.
Arm myself with courage.
Escape enemy territory.
And End the war.
My Star.
It was then when you came along.
A simple and stupid reason to stay.
Eyes as black as the December sky.
Mundane but a reason nonetheless.
My Ocean.
Enthralled by sweet and venomous words.
My hands moved away from the button.
The red light flashed with blaring alarms.
There it was my chance to end it all.
I didn't.
I didn't do it, my love. Do you know why?
I didn't because I felt your embrace.
I didn't because I was sold armistice.
I didn't because I thought I was safe.
I didn't because I trusted you.
That was my sin.
It was not betrayal of a false moral.
It was not forsaking a false prophet.
It was not choosing my joy over yours.
It was not clinging to the cliff of your soul.
My sin was trusting you.
There is no penitence for that.
Either way, I wouldn't want it.
Despite it all, I still don't regret you.
Despite it all, you are still my everything.
The engines ran out of gas and my lungs out of air.
As blood seeps out of my mortal wounds I make a choice.
I put on my cowboy hat and strap myself to the lightning.
This war is no longer my problem.
As wind caresses my face I watch the steel bird fall into the vast blue ocean.
Even as I fall into the abyss of your soul, my final thoughts are not of home.
Even as rivers of blood run from my body, I cling to your warmth.
Even as my world ends, the cocoon we weaved is my safe place.
Even as I fall, my final thoughts dwell on you.
Though hurt, I hold no quarrel.
Though broken, I only wish for peace.
Though lonely, I don't long for you.
Though bruised, I still love you.
I am engulfed by light.
I see her in the distance.
The Keeper of the Flame awaits.
She welcomes me like an old friend.
Peace and solace at last.
