"i love you intentionally. i love you with every bit of conscience that i was born with."

SNATCHING THE HAT OFF OF HIS HEAD, Lucia hid it behind her back, whistling as if she'd done nothing at all. Carl huffed but chuckled nonetheless as he snatched it back, straightening it atop his head. Judith kicked her legs in the woman's arm, her brown eyes wide and bright. She liked that about them. They were always investigating. Trying to view as much of the world as possible.

Lucia took another bite of one of the cookies that Carol had baked. That woman truly was a genius. Acorns and beets? She was the only one who would pull off such a thing.

"They're back!"

Even from across the community, she could hear the squeak of the metal gate as it was yanked open. The revving of the RV and the way the brakes screamed as they slowed.

Dani was back.

They were in no rush to get to RV. Not at first. It was Rosita letting Lucia know they were supposed to meet that had her quickening her pace down the streets, holding Judith securely on her hip.

Waiting patiently by the door, she beamed as the door opened and her family filed out in a line. Danica jokingly pushed Elijah's head as he muttered something over his shoulder before glancing at the building and grinning. She jogged over, hugging her sister and pressing a kiss to Judith's head.

They hadn't even been gone that long but the homesickness that filled her stomach was enough to make her want to vomit. Maybe it was all the talk of that Negan guy and the Saviors. The idea that they might all be at risk the same way the Hilltop was.

Alexandria had avoided the wrath of the group so far. She was hanging onto that fact like a lifebuoy in the ocean. They were safe here.

"Stop growing up." Lucia muttered into her sister's hair, stilling holding her close.

"It might be a little late for that." Dani chuckled.

People entered the church, walking past them— or around more like— but they took a second to let the earth still just for a second. Sometimes all she really needed was her sister.

Quick footsteps hit the pavement approaching them and Dani pulled away to glance around for the source. It was instantaneous. Her face lit up with the power of a thousand suns and her joy was unmovable on her face.

The person slowed once she was close enough and rested her hands on her waist. "What do I get?" She asked.

Grinning wildly, Dani leaped into Tara's arms, pressing their lips together as her arms looped around her neck. Tara stumbled back in the suddenness of it all but with the same amount of ease, she's straightened, holding her girl close and giggling as their foreheads rested against the other. Her hair was loose around her shoulders, falling into their faces and drawing a hearty chuckle from the other.
