PhoebeWe stood mere inches apart, Draco Malfoy towered over me with a careful scrutiny in his deep water eyes. I felt myself losing composure as my breath caught in my throat. How could I explain being outside of their compartment? Especially after everything I'd just heard.
It seemed like the walls closed in on me, caught in something bad. I opened my mouth to say something, anything but no words fell out. Instead suspense stretched in my lungs making it hard to conjure a reasonable thought. All I could think about was him and his closeness.
"What's wrong?" His expression softened into a worried one, he inched closer.
The air thickened and my heart stopped for a minuscule of a second. The way he was looking at me was wrong. No one should be able to look at me as if they...cared. Precisely someone like him. This had to be some trap. Perhaps to try and see what other weakness he could read off me to relay to his friends later.
It couldn't be real because Draco Malfoy didn't care about anyone other than himself and whatever twisted cause the pureblood families have surrendered to. I would not fall for it. I heaved for air and brushed past him down the corridor without looking back.
I walked in on Lisa Turpin and Kirsi sharing the latest issue of Witch Weekly's magazine. They didn't bother looking up. Whatever gossip they were reading must've been something important according to Kirsi standards. I didn't care for such frivolous things. Owlette screeched, wanting out of the cage. I poked a finger through the gaps to scratch her beak in encouragement.
"Myron Wagtail!" Kirsi exclaimed, all smiles. Moose jumped out of his skin and scampered over to me.
"He's so hot," Turpin chimed in. "I got Donaghan Tremlett!"
I picked up Moose and sat down across from them. They started to laugh then they looked at me with devious smirks. "Phoebe?" Kirsi tried.
"No," I refused, immediately knowing what she wanted from me. "I will not participate in something as ridiculous as this."
"Please. It's just a quiz!" Kirsi's mouth dropped pleadingly. She kept insisting, refusing a no.
"Fine." I gave in after a while.
Her big, bright blue eyes sparkled and she jumped over to my side extending the magazine to me. 'WHICH DARING WIZARD WILL CHARM YOUR HEART?' its headline faded in and out in bold letters. The quiz featured Kirsi's favorite wizarding band; The Weird Sisters. Kirsi cleared her throat before reading aloud.
"Pick a place to take a stroll with your wizard." She started with the first question. There were only two options for each question. And for this one it was either the Black Lake or the Forbidden Forest.
"Black Lake." I answered without question.
"How long do you wait until you talk to your crush?"
"I don't," I deadpanned.
