Why'd I choose this job again? Plot convenience? My crippling savior complex? My main character syndrome?  For my redemption arc? God damn, I'm 20! I should be living out my life doing... College student shit! Not trying to stop the impending doom of a fictional world!

Dazai touched Ali's shoulder, "You're over the speed limit." He told her, looking at how fast the two of them were driving.

Ali's hands clenched around the steering wheel, "Y'know if I knew what was happening, I might slow down." She said, pressing her foot against the pedal as she took a deep breath, looking at the GPS.

Dazai ran his hand through his hair, "Well... The only thing I can tell you is that Kyouka's going to be fine, and so will Atsushi. Me and Ranpo planned it out." He told her, looking at how far away from the destination they were.

"Do you at least have any devices on you that'll allow us to listen in on the two of them?" Ali asked, turning the car and sighing.

"Well I do but... I don't think you'll want to listen-" Dazai stopped talking as he stared down the barrel of the gun Ali was holding at him.

"Listen Dazai... I'm fine with not knowing anything, but if those two get hurt while I'm not listening... I'll kill you." She told him, her eyes darkening as she kept them on the road. Not even looking at Dazai.

Sighing, Dazai reached into his coat, pulling out a pair of headphones, "You won't be able to talk to them but... You'll be able to listen to them." He told her, before reaching his hand out and slowly lowering the gun in Ali's hands.

"Please don't be trigger happy... I know you're under some stress but..." Dazai told her, his voice falling towards the end.

Sighing, Ali lowered the headset that she was putting on her head, also putting the gun back into her bag. "I... You're right. It's just... I don't like loosing people I'm close to." She told him, before glancing at him.

"So... What the hell happened while I was talking to Kyouka? Why're Akutagawa and Atsushi teaming up? Don't they hate each other? How'd they get to the roof of the Moby Dick? And-" Dazai shook his head, as he sighed.

"I'll start from the top." He finally said, "Though we're almost there so... I'll have to make it quick."

...

"So basically... Atsushi got beat up by Fitzgerald, Akutagawa came in to save him for some gay reason... The two ran away to the roof, and are currently fighting Fitzgerald on the roof?" Ali asked, wondering what plane of reality she was living in.

I mean... This is an anime so... Things don't really have to make too much sense.

Dazai nodded, "I mean, it'd make more sense if you were watching it but... Kyouka and everything." He told her, just as he finished talking he looked out the window, looking at the giant mechanical what in the sky.

"We're here." He told her, prompting her to stop the car and quickly put on the headphones that Dazai had given her, rubbing the ring on her finger as she took deep breaths, Dazai looked at her warily as he stepped out of the car.

The headset crackled as Ali focused on the vague noises, "De... Descent... Not accepting any... Put.." Her eyes widened as she looked up at the Moby Dick in the sky, which was slowly but surely falling down towards Yokohama.

Wait... Dazai... Dazai said that everything would be alright, everyone was supposed to be fine! I... Atsushi and the agency was supposed to live and...

Is it my fault?

Maybe the plot wasn't supposed to go here.

Maybe everyone was supposed to live, and the Moby Dick wasn't supposed to crash.

I... It's all my fault... Everyone's going to die because of me again...

Just like mom, dad, Hime, Rai... And J-

The headphone quality became clearer as a familiar voice rang in Ali's ears, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"There's still a way." Kyouka's voice said, sending away every single one of Ali's negative thoughts.

"Kyouka? Kyouka, can you hear me?" She asked, before remembering that she couldn't talk to anyone through the speakers.

Please let Kyouka be safe...

"I heard you two talking... We can't bring up the Moby Dick again but... It might be able to crash into the ocean and not hit the city... If it gets hit by something else." Kyouka explained.

"I'm in an airship right now... I'll direct it to crash into the Moby Dick." She told Atsushi, causing Ali to let out the sigh of relief she had been holding inside of her.

I... Everything's going to be fine?

Nobody's going to die?

It's... Not my fault?

Ali couldn't see it but she was sure that she heard Atsushi's smile in her voice. "Kyouka you're amazing! Me and Akutagawa are going to escape, you also prepare-"

"I can't. Atsushi... I can't. I'm still a prisoner and connected to the airship... Escape without me." Kyouka told him, causing Ali's blood to run cold.

No.

"I... Thought about it for a little."

No. No.

"And I... Don't want to live in the darkness forever."

No. No. No.

"I want to...  Be like you and Ali, always saving others."

No. No. No. No.

"And if I can just use up my one life, to save everyone else's lives... If I can make this choice to help everyone..."

Please... Don't do this.

"Then... I'll take it."

"Atsushi... Tell everyone, especially Ali..."

"Thank you. I have no regrets"

Somewhere inside of Ali, something snapped. Something that was barley being held together, something that made her numb to everything.

She didn't notice how she got out of the car, she didn't notice the aircraft that crashed into the Moby Dick, she didn't even notice Dazai, who was trying to grab her attention.

All she saw, was the water in front of her.

Ah... It'll always be my fault. No matter what I do. No matter how hard I try. No matter what kind of people I meet.

It.

Will.

Always.

Be.

My.

Fault.

Ali couldn't even see Atsushi, who had just gotten out of the Moby Dick, running towards her with all of his remaining strength, trying to stop her.

"... I... Hate myself."

And with that,

She took a step into the water.

Falling down

and down

and down.
