As Wonwoo and Mingyu lay in their separate beds later that night, they were both pondering over their almost-kiss. Wonwoo wondered if Mingyu had wanted to kiss him, and how he would have reacted if he'd done it. Mingyu wondered if Wonwoo had truly been about to kiss him, or if he was misunderstanding the event. They were both filled with longing for each other, but still a level of uncertainty that kept them separate. The wall between them was still there, even if they had been chipping away at it over their days together.
Wonwoo sighed and ran his hands over his flat belly, feeling the familiar skin under his hands. He imagined it growing big and round with pups. Now that he was alone, he could secretly wallow in his jealousy over his friend's good news. Of course, he was ecstatic for Kihyun and Hyunwoo. He knew they had been trying to get pregnant for over a year and he knew that his friend would be an amazing mother. It was his own emptiness that made him sad. Kihyun's news was just a reminder of what Wonwoo didn't have, what it seemed like he'd never obtain. A real family of his own, a baby that he could hold and love, who would smell like milk and honey just like all pups. An alpha who would lovingly and proudly cradle them both against his body, holding them in the shelter of his arms as Wonwoo fed the little one from his own breast. Of course, he'd never get pregnant if he couldn't get past his own personal hangups over sex. He felt a tear escape the side of his eye and wiped it away quickly.
There was a quiet whine from the edge of the bed and he let out a little laugh that turned into a sob. He covered his mouth to hold in further sounds as he tried to control himself. He felt the bed dip as Piper climbed up and lay down next to him. Wonwoo turned his body and curled into the wolf's side, pressing his face into his soft, fluffy fur and finally letting go. He wrapped his arms around Piper and cried until he was tired and limp, unable to cry anymore. The wolf licked his face as he pulled back and made a little whining sound as he pressed his cold nose into Wonwoo's neck, snuffling at his skin and nuzzling him until he fell asleep.
When he woke up the next day he felt much better, if a little puffy. He hoped it wasn't obvious that he'd been crying as he showered and dressed, but thought it probably was. He had no idea how to fix it, so he just rubbed his face and headed to the kitchen for coffee with Piper trotting faithfully beside him. He smiled as he grabbed his usual mug, the squat one with the uneven handle, and prepared his coffee with sugar and cream in the same place as always. The omega headed out to his usual spot on the porch swing.
Wonwoo listened to the sounds of Mingyu training his wolves, calling out different commands, and running around. He closed his tired, sore eyes and sipped at his coffee as he let the sounds that had become routine, comfort him and he let himself relax. He used the hand that wasn't holding his mug to scratch behind Piper's ears. His wolf no longer participated in Mingyu's daily drills. The alpha had said it was to get him used to taking orders only from Wonwoo, which he guessed made sense.
As Mingyu finished up his drills and dismissed his wolves to play and run around, he walked up to the porch to see Wonwoo in his usual place, holding his ugliest coffee mug as usual. However, he noticed that the omega's eyes were red and puffy like he'd been crying. He wondered what had upset him to make him cry. He wished he could pull him into his lap and scent him, but that was not appropriate. So he just took his seat next to him and for the first time really thought about the fact that soon Wonwoo would return to his regular life. He wouldn't be here every day to sit on the porch swing and drink coffee or dance with him while they cooked. He had less than two and a half weeks left with Wonwoo to try and convince the omega that he was worthy of him and to give Mingyu a chance to prove himself and court him.
"Good morning," Wonwoo said as Mingyu settled next to him on the swing, making it wobble and sway.
"Morning."
