**Chapter 13: Awakening of the Forgotten One**

The moment Yuuji’s voice echoed through the vast chamber, the vortex responded with a deep, resonating hum that shook the ground beneath their feet. The swirling mass of energy pulsed, growing larger, darker. The oppressive aura filled the air, suffocating and overwhelming. Yuuji gripped the Blade of Eterna tighter, the sword's faint glow offering little comfort against the darkness that loomed ahead.

“I’ve got a bad feeling about this,” the archer whispered, her eyes wide as she stared at the shifting vortex. “It’s… alive. How do we even fight something like that?”

The mage’s voice trembled, though her grip on her staff remained steady. “That isn’t just power or magic. It’s ancient—something beyond our understanding. A forgotten entity from before the Abyss.”

“The Forgotten One,” Yuuji murmured. The whispers from the Blade of Eterna were louder now, warning him of the danger they faced. This entity had been buried deep beneath the dungeon, hidden and protected by the Abyss for eons. Now, their actions had stirred it awake.

The knight stepped forward, his shield raised. “Whatever it is, we don’t let it out. If it’s waking up, we stop it before it fully awakens.”

Yuuji nodded. “Together.”

As if hearing their determination, the vortex roared. The chamber quaked as the tendrils of energy lashed out, striking the ground and walls, sending cracks spider-webbing across the ancient stone. The entity’s presence became more tangible, a being of pure malice and destruction, held only by the remnants of its ancient seal.

With a loud crash, a massive tendril of darkness shot toward them, faster than they could react. The knight leaped forward, raising his shield just in time to block the attack. The force of the blow sent him skidding back, his armor groaning under the pressure.

“Focus!” he yelled, bracing himself for another strike. “We can’t hold back!”

The archer was already moving, darting to the side, her bow drawn. “I’ll keep it distracted!” She loosed a flurry of arrows toward the vortex, but they were swallowed by the dark energy before they could even get close.

Yuuji gritted his teeth, stepping forward. The Blade of Eterna pulsed in his hand, resonating with the entity’s power. He could feel the sword guiding him, pushing him to strike at the heart of the vortex.

“We need to sever its connection to the world!” the mage shouted over the chaos, her hands glowing with magic as she chanted an incantation. “It’s still bound by the remnants of its seal, but it’s breaking free. If we disrupt its energy, we can force it back!”

Yuuji glanced at the mage, his heart racing. “How do we do that?”

“Strike the source,” she said, pointing to the altar at the center of the room, beneath the swirling vortex. “The seal is weakening, but if we strike now, we can stop it before it fully awakens!”

Another tendril lashed out, this time aimed at the mage. Yuuji moved without thinking, raising the Blade of Eterna to intercept. The sword’s light flared as it met the dark tendril, cutting through it with a brilliant flash. The entity recoiled, the tendril dissipating into mist.

Yuuji didn’t waste a second. He charged toward the altar, the Blade of Eterna glowing brighter with each step. The whispers in his mind became clearer, guiding his movements. The voices of the past wielders urged him on, their strength flowing into him.

The knight and the archer covered him, their attacks keeping the tendrils at bay. The mage’s magic swirled around them, forming a protective barrier as she continued her chant, weaving a spell that would weaken the entity further.

As Yuuji reached the altar, he saw it—an ancient sigil carved into the stone, glowing faintly with the last remnants of its power. This was the seal that had kept the Forgotten One imprisoned for centuries. It was cracked and crumbling, its magic nearly spent. But if Yuuji could strike now, before the entity fully broke free, he could restore the balance.

The vortex roared again, sensing the danger. It lashed out with all its strength, sending waves of dark energy toward Yuuji. But the Blade of Eterna glowed fiercely in his hand, its light pushing back the darkness as he raised it high above the altar.

“Now!” the mage cried. “Strike now, Yuuji!”

With all his strength, Yuuji brought the Blade of Eterna down onto the sigil.

For a moment, time seemed to freeze. The sword connected with the ancient stone, and the entire chamber was flooded with brilliant light. The force of the impact sent shockwaves rippling through the air, and the vortex let out a deafening screech, its form flickering as the light pierced through it.

The sigil glowed brighter, its cracks sealing, its power reigniting. The connection between the Forgotten One and the world began to sever, the entity’s form unraveling as the ancient seal reasserted itself.

The tendrils of darkness flailed wildly, but they grew weaker, dissolving into mist as the light consumed them. The vortex shrank, its roars growing fainter, until finally, with one last, agonized scream, it vanished into nothingness.

The silence that followed was deafening.

Yuuji stood there, panting, the Blade of Eterna still glowing softly in his hand. The altar was intact, the sigil fully restored. The Forgotten One had been sealed once again, its power contained for another age.

The knight lowered his shield, breathing heavily. “Is it… over?”

The mage, her staff still glowing faintly, nodded. “For now. The seal will hold, but this place… it’s ancient. There are other forces like this one, forgotten and buried.”

The archer let out a long breath, slumping to the ground in relief. “I don’t care how many ancient entities there are. I just need a moment to catch my breath.”

Yuuji wiped the sweat from his brow, but the unease in his chest remained. The Blade of Eterna was silent now, but its whispers still echoed faintly in his mind. The Forgotten One may have been sealed, but this dungeon was only one part of something much larger.

“We’ve stopped it for now,” Yuuji said, his voice quiet. “But this isn’t over. There are other dungeons, other entities… and they’re still out there.”

The mage met his gaze, her expression grim. “You’re right. This world is filled with forgotten powers, waiting for someone to disturb them. We may have won today, but we’ll have to face them again.”

Yuuji nodded, gripping the Blade of Eterna. “Then we’ll be ready.”

As they turned to leave the chamber, Yuuji felt the weight of their journey settling on him. The Abyss had been a test, but the Forgotten One was only the beginning.

Their adventure was far from over.
