Chapter 40: Heart of Eternity

The storm outside the tower had grown even fiercer, the winds howling as if the void itself were trying to tear the world apart. But inside the ancient ruins, there was a stillness—a calm before the final storm. Yuuji stood before the fading memory stone, its glow now almost extinguished. His heart pounded with the weight of the visions he had seen, of the Guardians’ desperate last stand, and of the shattering of the Heart of Eterna.

This was it. The final moment.

"We’re close," Yuuji said, his voice barely a whisper, but his resolve clear. "The void is almost here. We need to find the last fragment."

The mage looked at him, her face pale but determined. "But where? The memory stone didn’t show us a location. How do we even know where to look?"

Yuuji closed his eyes, feeling the faint pulse of the fragment within him. It was weak, barely noticeable, but it was there—a connection, a pull toward something far beyond the physical realm. He could feel the Heart’s will guiding him, tugging him toward the final piece of the puzzle.

"It’s not about where," Yuuji said slowly, opening his eyes. "It’s about when."

The others looked at him, confusion in their eyes.

"The void… it’s not just a force of destruction. It’s tied to time, to existence itself. The Heart is a part of that balance. If we can reach the last fragment, we can restore the Heart and stop the void from consuming everything—but we have to act now, before it’s too late."

The knight stepped forward, his sword gleaming faintly in the dim light. "Then we move now. No more waiting."

Yuuji nodded, his hand tightening around the Blade of Eterna. "Follow me."

They stepped out of the tower, the storm raging around them with a fury that seemed to mirror the growing power of the void. But Yuuji wasn’t afraid. The fragment in his chest pulsed stronger with every step, leading him forward. He could feel it now—the pull of the final piece. It was close, almost within reach.

They trekked through the storm, the winds battering them, but Yuuji pressed on, his eyes fixed on the horizon. In the distance, beyond the twisted trees and broken ruins, he could see a dark shape looming—a towering structure that seemed to rise out of the storm itself.

"There," Yuuji said, pointing toward the distant figure. "The last fragment is there."

The others followed his gaze, their faces grim but resolute. They could feel it too—the overwhelming presence of the void, centered on that dark structure. It was as if the world itself was bending toward it, pulled by the gravity of the void’s corruption.

"That’s where it all ends," the archer said, her voice hard. "One way or another."

They moved with purpose, each step bringing them closer to the final confrontation. As they neared the structure, Yuuji felt the pulse of the Heart growing stronger, almost painful now. The void’s presence was overwhelming, suffocating, but the fragment in his chest pushed back against it, fighting for control.

The structure itself was massive, a twisted tower of black stone, its walls crackling with dark energy. At the top, a swirling vortex of void energy raged, the storm swirling around it in a chaotic spiral.

"This is it," the mage whispered, her eyes wide with awe and fear. "The heart of the void."

Yuuji could feel it too. The void was here, waiting for them. And at the center of it all, hidden deep within the tower, was the final fragment of the Heart of Eterna.
