Chapter 10
Amina.
As the holiday came to an end, Sultan bid us farewell and returned to China, leaving us with memories of his exciting stories and warm presence.
Meanwhile, Sophia shared the news that her brothers, Omar and Tariq, were heading to Malaysia together for further studies. I couldn't help but feel a pang of nostalgia, remembering my brief encounter with Omar.
As we settled back into school, Zeebu, Amrah, Baby, and I were excited to start our final year together. Sophia, who had transferred to our school, joined us, and we welcomed her with open arms.
With our mock exams approaching, we studied hard, supporting each other through late-night revision sessions and group study dates. Alhamdulillah, we all passed our WAEC and NECO exams, and our bond grew stronger than ever.
Next, we tackled our JAMB exams, each choosing to study at Nile University Abuja. I chose to study International Relations, Zeebu opted for Business Administration, Amrah selected Computer Science, Baby chose Mass Communication, and Sophia decided on Economics.
As we prepared to start our university journey, Omar's thoughts slowly began to fade from my mind, but I still remembered him occasionally, especially when Sophia mentioned her brother.
In September, we began our journey at Nile University, excited to start this new chapter. Surprisingly, we all became roommates in the dormitory, deepening our friendship.
Our university experience was off to a great start, with supportive families, loving conversations, and a strong bond between us. We explored the campus, attended classes, and enjoyed our newfound independence.
Our daily routine consisted of early morning prayers, followed by breakfast together, then off to classes. We'd meet up for lunch, sharing stories and laughter, and then head to the library for study sessions.
On Fridays, we'd explore the city, trying new foods and visiting local attractions. Our favorite spot was the Abuja National Mosque, where we'd take stunning photos and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
One interesting incident was when Baby accidentally locked herself out of our dorm room, and we had to call the porter to let her back in. We couldn't stop laughing about it for days!
As the semester progressed, we settled into a comfortable routine. We'd study together, explore the campus, and support each other through thick and thin.
One day, we stumbled upon a flyer for the annual Nile University Cultural Festival. Zeebu suggested we participate in the fashion show, showcasing our unique styles and modest fashion. Amrah offered to create a stunning presentation for the tech exhibition. Baby suggested we participate in the Quran recitation competition. Sophia took charge of planning our participation in the business plan competition. And I helped with research and scripting for the debate competition.
We worked tirelessly, preparing for our respective events. Finally, the day of the festival arrived.
The Nile University Cultural Festival was a two-day event, filled with various activities and competitions. We were excited to participate and showcase our talents.
On the first day, Zeebu's fashion show was the first event. She had designed a stunning collection of modest outfits, showcasing African prints and Islamic-inspired designs. The audience was wowed by her creativity and talent.
Next was the tech exhibition, where Amrah presented her project on artificial intelligence. She explained how AI could be used to solve real-world problems, impressing the judges and audience with her knowledge and skills.
After lunch, Baby participated in the Quran recitation competition. Her beautiful voice and flawless recitation moved the crowd, and she received a standing ovation.
In the afternoon, Sophia's business plan was presented to the judges. Her innovative idea for a sustainable energy company impressed the judges, and she won second prize.
Finally, our debate team, consisting of myself and two other friends, participated in the debate competition. We argued for the motion "Education is the key to unlocking economic growth." Our arguments were well-received, and we made it to the finals.
On the second day, the finals of the debate competition took place. We argued against a team from another university, and after a intense debate, we were declared the winners.
The festival ended with a closing ceremony, where all the winners were announced and awarded prizes. We were thrilled to have won in various categories and had a sense of accomplishment.
As we left the festival venue, we were all smiles, proud of our achievements and grateful for the opportunity to showcase our talents. We knew that this experience would stay with us forever, and we would always cherish the memories of our time at Nile University.
