The next few days passed by in a haze. Draco tried to act normal, continuing his visits to the café, but there was a tension between him and Emma that hadn’t been there before. They didn’t speak about that night again, but it lingered in the air like an unspoken secret, hanging heavy over every conversation.

One afternoon, Draco walked into the café and found Emma behind the counter, looking distracted. Her usual bright smile wasn’t there, replaced instead by a distant expression as she wiped down the counter absentmindedly.

“Emma?” Draco asked, his voice soft but concerned.

Emma looked up quickly, as if startled. “Oh, hey, Draco.” She forced a smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes.

Draco frowned, stepping closer. “Is everything alright?”

She hesitated, biting her lip before finally answering. “Yeah, everything’s fine. Just… had a lot on my mind.”

He could tell something was off, but before he could press further, the bell above the door chimed, and a tall, athletic man walked in. Draco’s eyes flicked toward him, and immediately, he felt a sinking feeling in his chest.

Emma’s entire demeanor changed the moment she saw the man. Her face lit up in a way that Draco hadn’t seen before, and she quickly stepped out from behind the counter to greet him.

“Josh!” Emma said, her voice bright and full of warmth as she hugged him.

Draco’s stomach twisted. He watched as they exchanged a few soft words, too low for him to hear, but the way they held each other’s gaze told him everything he needed to know.

This was Emma’s boyfriend.

He stood frozen, the realization crashing over him like a wave. He had been so caught up in his own feelings for her, in the connection they’d shared, that he hadn’t even considered that she might have someone else in her life. And now, here he was, standing in the middle of her world, while another man occupied her heart.

Josh turned and noticed Draco, his arm still wrapped around Emma’s waist. “Hey there, man. I’m Josh,” he said with a friendly smile, offering his hand.

Draco forced himself to shake it, though his grip was tense. “Draco,” he muttered.

“Draco’s a regular here,” Emma chimed in quickly, her voice a little too cheerful. “He’s been coming around for a while now.”

Josh nodded, still smiling, oblivious to the storm brewing inside Draco. “Nice to meet you, mate. Emma’s told me this place has some good coffee. Thought I’d drop by and see it for myself.”

Draco didn’t say much, just offered a tight smile before stepping back, feeling suddenly out of place.

“I’ll get your order started,” Emma said, slipping behind the counter again, her eyes briefly meeting Draco’s. There was something apologetic in her gaze, but she didn’t say anything.

Draco turned toward the window, staring out at the rain as his mind raced. **How could he have been so blind?**

As Emma made Josh’s coffee, Draco’s thoughts spiraled. That night they shared—did it mean anything to her? Or was it just a mistake? Was he just some distraction while her real life, her real relationship, existed outside this café?

When the coffee was ready, Josh and Emma sat at one of the small tables, chatting and laughing like nothing in the world could touch them. Draco felt like an outsider, looking in on something he wasn’t meant to be part of.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Josh stood up, kissed Emma on the cheek, and left the café with a wave.

Draco waited until the door closed before speaking. “You didn’t tell me you had a boyfriend.”

Emma flinched slightly at his words, guilt flashing across her face. She avoided his eyes, busying herself with cleaning up the counter. “I didn’t think it was relevant.”

“Not relevant?” Draco echoed, his voice rising just a bit, frustration bubbling to the surface. “You don’t think that’s something I should’ve known?”

Emma sighed, finally looking up at him, her expression conflicted. “I wasn’t trying to hide him from you, Draco. Josh and I… we’ve been together for a while now, but things have been complicated lately. I didn’t know how to tell you after what happened between us.”

Draco’s chest tightened. “Complicated? So what? That night didn’t mean anything to you?”

Emma looked pained. “It’s not that simple. I didn’t expect any of this to happen. You and I… I wasn’t looking for anything like that. But it did happen, and I don’t regret it, but—” She stopped, struggling for words.

“But you’re still with him,” Draco finished for her, his voice hard.

Emma nodded slowly. “Yeah. I am.”

Draco exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. He had been so wrapped up in the idea of her, in the idea of something real between them, that he hadn’t even thought to ask. Now, it felt like everything had crumbled around him.

“I didn’t want to hurt you, Draco,” Emma said quietly, stepping closer to him. “I care about you, but… I also care about Josh. I’m just… I’m trying to figure it all out.”

Draco shook his head, his jaw clenched. “You should’ve figured it out before you dragged me into this.”

“I know,” Emma whispered, regret heavy in her voice. “I’m sorry.”

For a moment, Draco just stood there, staring at her. The pain, the anger—it was all too much. He had opened himself up to her in a way he hadn’t done with anyone in years, and now he felt like a fool.

“I need some time,” Draco muttered, turning toward the door. “To think.”

“Draco, wait—” Emma started, but he was already walking out the door, the bell chiming softly as he left the café behind.

Outside, the rain poured down harder, but Draco barely noticed. His thoughts were a whirlwind, a mess of emotions he couldn’t untangle.

**She has a boyfriend.**

The words echoed in his mind, sharp and bitter. He had let himself believe there was something real between them, something that could give him a glimpse of a life he never thought he could have. But it had all been an illusion.

As he walked through the rain, disappearing into the cold streets of London, Draco couldn’t help but wonder if he would ever truly escape the shadows of his past—or if he was doomed to always be on the outside, looking in.
