I bit my bottom lip as I walked into the halls of Crestwood's one and only public high school. The smell of bad cafeteria food and judgemental teens immediately filled my nostrils and I suddenly had the very strong urge to punch something.
I berated myself. Bad Nyssa! We promised not to let those tempermental issues get the best of us! I took a deep breath and started finding my locker
I hate being new. Hate it. It's like you're fresh meat for a pack of wild animals. Except in this case, the wild animals are judgy girls and disgusting guys. Fun. My only solstice in this animalistic place was-
"Nyssie!!!"A shrill voice called out, right befre I was suffocated in a hug. Brooke. My best friend. She used to live in Langmore with me, before moving to Crestwood, we'd been best friends ever since she stopped me from beating up her boyfriend for breaking up with her in middle school, and now, she was 'returning' the favor by helping me around this exuse of a school. I untangled myself before looking at my (gorgeous) best friend.
Brooke was shorter than me, but she was stunning. Her long blonde hair was always perfectly curled down her back, and she had big blue eyes that were too cute to be true. There was only one thing I think I'd ever like about this place, and that was Brooke Westwood.
"Brookie!" I said, in a slightly less shrill voice as I hugged her back. Immediately, I was bombarded with gossip, more gossip and of course, boys.
I hated talking about boys. Don't get me wrong, I've found guys attractive, but talking about them? not my strong suit. I would have my toungestapled to my nose before I ever engaged in a conversation about boys with anyone. Ever. Even Brooke.
She wiggled her eyebrows in a slightly cringe manner before speaking. "Soooo.....have you seen any guys you find attractive...?" She smirked devilishly. I loved Brooke with all my heart, but she needed to jump off a cliff.
I gave a nervous fake laugh, "Uh, yeah, no B...remember what I said about talking about guys? I'm like...hopeless in that department"Brooke (seemed) to understand and stopped, for now at least, with her you never know. We walked to my new locker, her chatting away about random stuff, me nodding along. Usually when i get bored, I tell people fake bad news, just to see their reactions, but I wouldn't do that to Brooke. No matter how much I wanted to.
She dropped me off to my locker and got a ping on her phone.
"Ooh! Nyssa, there's a hockey game tonight at the ice rink, you are so going, it'll be your first real small-town hockey game!" She jumped up and down madly. To be totally honest, i had a shift tonight at my dad's diner, and I'd much rather go there than some hockey game, but I didn't want to let Brooke down, not the first day we got to be together again.
So instead, I found myself saying yes. Perfect.
