«Let me see if I understood correctly, Professor Hakone. You want us to face the third-years? With all due respect, HOW THE FUCK DO YOU EXPECT US TO DO THAT?!» Sage exclaimed, confused and scared. Rosemary just bumped her shoulder with hers.
«You broke character a bit, Sage...» Rosemary whispered.
«Ah, sorry, ahem... HOW ON EARTH DO YOU EXPECT US TO DO THAT?»
The third-year students and Professor Hakone exchanged glances, while the smallest one seemed to be twitching her ears as if she were in her own world. Professor Hakone regained his composure and cleared his throat.
«Alright, kids, I'll explain it once more. I was instructed to ask you to warm up for this class and introduce you to the third-year students, as we will have a small activity where you'll measure your current abilities against these four. These will be friendly matches where you will be evaluated.»
As Professor Hakone prepared to introduce the students, the girl with the spear gently stopped him, saying that she and the others would handle it. She bowed slightly.
«Hello, first-years. My name is Rue Ruta. I'm sorry we haven't met before, but when you joined the academy, all the third-years were on practical missions. Still, I am the leader of this small group of four future great guardians.»
She introduced them while waving her hands at her three companions. However, the young man with messy hair and the school uniform was playing with the small girl he had been carrying earlier, while the other member with the red scarf and sword seemed moments away from falling asleep. They didn't seem to be the most imposing group...
Rue took her spear and threw it with all her strength, causing the messy-haired boy to dodge, followed by the small girl with rabbit ears. The spear was then stopped by the last member with the scarf, snapping him out of his apparent drowsiness.
«My name is Licorice Glabra. I'm a swordsman, and there's no need to try hitting me to wake me up. I'm not falling asleep; I'm just conserving energy when I don't need to use it, something my leader fails to understand.» Licorice said in a somewhat dull and tired voice as he walked over to hand the spear back to Rue.
«I understand your point, Cori, but it's rude not to act respectfully when we need to introduce ourselves to the first-years,» Rue commented, annoyed.
The first-year students were surprised by how Licorice stopped the spear. Despite this, Amaryllis couldn't help but let out a small laugh.
«Wait, you call him Cori? That's very funny and silly in a sweet way, hahaha.»
As she laughed, the small girl with rabbit ears looked at Amaryllis and ran over to her, speaking with noticeable hyperactivity.
«Yes! That's what I said at first, hahaha! Still, I think it's really cute and makes me imagine them as a lovely cou-» She was interrupted by two taps on the head from Licorice and Rue, who just reprimanded her, saying that's not how things were, and she knew it.
Despite the hits, the small girl didn't seem fazed.
«My name is Vanilla Ochya, from the Ochya family, owners of one of the major potion companies in Lyngarth. I was born a mage and am a blacksmith as a hobby. I really like you, purple-haired girl. Can you tell me your name?» she said at remarkable speed.
«Ah, uhhh, Amaryllis McMo... Ah... Amaryllis Doidea... that's my name.» she said, somewhat confused.
«Great, Amaryllis! I hope we can talk more soon,» she managed to say before the last member put his hand on her head. Vanilla just looked back at him and smiled.
