Professor Caraway was recovering, and Professors Dretch and Salthyer informed the Triad of the situation, who then passed the report on to the Royal Crown. To keep the students engaged and focused on something else, they organized a hunting contest to capture some winter monsters in the nearby forests.

«So, Olive, you're free from imprisonment under Salthyer's supervision. The conditions are that you obey everything he says and don't stray too far from him?» Thyme asked, looking doubtful about the situation.

«Exactly, those were the conditions. But since Professor Salthyer is busy right now, he left me under your care, hehe.» Olive replied.

«Do you think we'll find an impressive winter monster? Maybe a Tiger Bear or an Ice-Encrusted Wolf?» Snapdragon asked, to which Parsley inquired.

«What exactly is an Ice-Encrusted Wolf, Snap?» Snap responded, «Oh, it's an Ice Wolf that ate so much it got fat, and its lower half got buried in the snow long enough for a cup of ice to form under it. It's supposed to be a very tasty monster for this season; they say its meat is highly valued and juicy.»

«It sounds like a creature in constant suffering.» Parsley said in response.

«Exactly, which is why if we find one, it would be perfect. My father once found one, and it was a great feast... except for the part where he made me fight my brother for food...» Amaryllis touched Snap's shoulder.

«You don't have to worry about that now, but if we do find one and it's really as delicious as you say, I'll fight for the last piece if necessary.»

«Hey, wait, Rosemary fell behind.» Sage said, causing everyone to turn around instantly.

«Rose... if you stay there, you'll end up getting sick.» Parsley said, looking at a completely still Rosemary, her winter cloak fluttering slightly, with her sword, Flowering Thorn on her back.

«What's the point in continuing, Parsley? I accepted that I needed to improve to make my mother proud and impress her when she returned, to show that I could go on without her sword... And then they tell me... that she's dead...»

«Rosemary... I know these are painful moments for you, but... she would want you to relax a bit right now—» Rosemary shouted in response.

«MY MOTHER DIED YESTERDAY, PARSLEY, and to make it worse, the sword I cried over and took such care of, was a fake, a simple, crude copy. My mother lied to me; she told me she entrusted me with her sword... that she would come back home...»

Amaryllis took a few steps towards Rosemary. «Rosemary, Parsley is just trying to help.»

Rosemary replied, «How will that help me? None of you can help me right now; you don't understand anything. You act like you really understand me, but you don't.» as she grabbed her head.

«They act like they understand you because that's what friends do, they try to understand your pain and support you.» Amaryllis said, sounding somewhat tired.

Parsley added, «Exactly, we're trying to support you in the way we can. Since the incident at Vinca's cave, I haven't forgiven myself for making such a foolish decision. I've cared for so many siblings, and you're like a little sister to me.»

«I'm not one of your siblings, Parsley, stop treating me like just another little girl! We're companions!» Rosemary instantly snapped at her.

Amaryllis then retorted, «Then act like we're your companions, for god's sake! Stop acting like a child who doesn't want help from anyone because she thinks she's big enough to carry her own problems.»

...

Silence fell...

...

«Ugh, let's go, Snap, I need to distract myself with something...» Amaryllis said, and Snapdragon tried to respond, «But we should—»
