Chapter 9: Sleep Before the Long Awakening

Rice Field

The sun shines bright on another day as those welcomed it with open arms as they had survived another night of demons but lately, the demon numbers have been dwindling down which confused some people as that has never happened before.

In a rice field, a large trench was seen as it disrupted the perfect line of crops and at the end of the trench lies a boy with a checkered haori that looked burnt and his skin was littered with dry blood as he was asleep with Muramasa in his right hand.

A loud caw was heard as a crow landed near the boy as it cocked its head and pecked the boy's head.

"Wake up! Wake up!" The crow shouted as it pecked Tanjiro's head.

No response.

"Get up, come on get up! The crow insistently said as he continued pecking as within Tanjiro, Tyler had lost his patience with the bird.

"Finally, I get to kill this stupid crow!" Tyler said gleefully before he forced Tanjiro's hand to shoot out to grab the crow but it stopped just an inch before reaching the crow who cawed in fright and flew back a couple of feet as Tanjiro woke up.

"I told you Tyler, we can't kill our Kasugai Crow." Tanjiro chided mentally.

"Fuck that little shit! He was pecking us in the head like he doesn't know what we went through in the past twenty four hours!" Tyler shouted in anger.

"Because... he doesn't?" Tanjiro replied as Tyler cursed which made the boy wince as he slowly got up tiredly and sheathed his sword before looking around to see the trench he made.

Yawning, Tanjiro performed a couple of stretching exercises while Tyler himself yawned in his head before talking.

"Hey Tanjiro, I went to sleep after going through that doorway... what happened after that?" Tyler asked.

"Well, you made this trench in the field before going to sleep, I was awake a bit after two demons tried to eat us but then exhaustion flooded into me and I passed out here." Tanjiro explained before his crow landed on his shoulder.

"Head East! Head East! Follow me! Follow me!" The crow ordered as it took flight and headed East as Tanjiro followed behind the bird.

"We fought the demon king and yet we still take orders from a bird?" Tyler muttered as Tanjiro sweat dropped.

"Well our Kasugai Crow leads us to different places that we don't know about. Its good to have eyes in the sky for us." Tanjiro said happily as Tyler rolled his eyes at that.

"More like eyes up its own ass, the damn avian didn't have eyes on Muzan before he backstabbed us literally." Tyler replied bluntly as Tanjiro couldn't help but agree with that mentally.

As the pair followed their crow to wherever their destination was, an older crow was trailing behind them as it looked at them with its soulless beady eyes before turning around and heading towards its master to report what it has seen within the last twenty four hours.

Four Hours Later

Everyone was staring at the sight in shock as Tanjiro was devouring an entire buffet of food as he ate rapidly and almost like he had a bottomless stomach as a full plate vanished completely within the span of five seconds.

"More please!" Tanjiro asked politely as the chef sweat dropped but nevertheless, already had it covered as he balanced two massive entrees with about seven bowls of food on each of them as Tanjiro kindly removed the empty entrees from his table just in time for the new ones to take its place.
