Authors note:
i'm sorry if i take longer to put out chapters than other times :( my classes are getting hectic and i have to focus on that rather than this sometimes. but im working on chapters everyday so they dont suck <3 i love writing this for you guys!I can feel the pressure in the room as we sit around the conference table, like it was a tangible entity, all eyes fixed on the campaign's latest dilemma. The stakes have never been higher—Jack is going to officially debate Scott Gaetz in twenty-five days. The country is divided, and every word, every move we make from now on will be scrutinized under a microscope. There's no room for error. And Jack has to do everything right in order to win the hearts and votes of the American people. It feels like there is still so much to be done, with so little time.
But I believe in Jack.
Liv stands at the front of the room, clicking through a series of mock-ups for the upcoming debate ads Jack is going to shoot tomorrow. We are using some extra funding we gathered to push out any last minute messaging. Thus, we rented a small space here in Chicago to separate ourselves from hotels and focus on the ads for a few days. I watch her; she's sharp, focused, and unflinching in her critique of our previous strategy. I'm impressed by her, almost forgetting that I'm the campaign manager. I know we will benefit from having her in the cabinet when Jack wins. Grant sits beside me, flipping through papers, his brows furrowed in concentration. He's dedicated himself vigorously these past few months that I can't help but be proud of him too. Jack leans back in his chair, arms crossed, his face a perfect mask of calm, but I know better. I can feel the undercurrent of tension rolling off him in waves, even though he's trying to maintain a composed front. The weight of what's coming presses down on all of us.
I look at him, his arms crossed, his focus on the conversation. And all I can focus on is how much I want to pounce on him. The image of his hair tousled, sweat dripping from his exposed skin, and his lips leaving warm kisses on my nipples flashes through my mind. I've been so horny the last few days that I can't help the desires bewitching me. I don't want to stop them. I touched myself so earnestly last night that I didn't even need to watch anything to cum. All I wanted was him. All I needed was the image of him.
"We need to push harder," Liv says, tapping the next slide. Her voice pulls me away from my thoughts and back into reality, a small blush forming on my cheeks. I swallow hard, trying to shift my focus back onto the conversation. I hope Jack didn't notice how I was practically staring at him. "Gaetz has been aggressive with his messaging, painting Jack as weak on foreign policy and too progressive on domestic issues. We have to counter that. Our ads need to show Jack as a strong leader, someone who won't back down."
Grant nods, chiming in. "And we need to be careful not to fall into his sleazy trap. Gaetz is trying to frame the narrative around fear and instability. He's rallying his base with the promise of law and order, while painting us as soft on crime and too lenient with social programs."
