The morning after held a quiet warmth that I hadn't expected but found myself savoring. Light peeked through my bedroom curtains, casting soft, amber shadows across the room. I opened my eyes, seeing Jack lay beside me. His face half-buried in the pillow, breathing slow and steady as his chest heaved. I watched him for a moment, as the memories from last night came rushing back in. A surreal feeling like I've never known washes over me. We were here—both of us... in my bed... in a reality that had previously been confined to hesitant, distant hopes. It almost didn't feel real.
Slowly, trying not to disturb him, I try to slip out from under the sheets and sit on the edge of the bed. A part of me wondered if he'd wake up and reality would hit, that perhaps he'd feel differently in the daylight. That he would regret everything that happened. I didn't feel that way myself. I don't think I've ever been happier.
But that didn't happen. When he finally stirred, it was with a lazy, easy grin that his eyes started to open. He stretched out his body, his hand reaching to his phone to check the time. The tension that sometimes tightened his expression had softened, replaced by something lighter and freer.
"Morning beautiful," he murmured, his voice rough from sleep, but his eyes clear and bright.
"Morning." I smiled, a feeling of warmth washing over me from seeing his sleepy gaze."How'd you sleep?"
"Wonderful," he said, rubbing his eyes. "You're so comfy, it was easy to fall asleep."
"I slept great too. I– I love your cuddles."
He grabbed my wrist, pulling me back into bed with him. "Oh yeah? Come here then. Let me cuddle you some more." I laughed as he pulled my body in closer, forcibly shoving the blanket over our bodies. "Mmm– I love your cuddles too," He said, pushing some of my hair out of my face and tucking it behind my ear. He nuzzled his face into the pillow, closing his eyes in satisfaction. I was in absolute bliss, appreciating every moment.
"Is there anything specific you're craving for breakfast?" I ask. "Luckily I got groceries yesterday so I'm fully stocked."
"Mmm... not necessarily. As long as there's coffee."
I chuckle, knowing him all too well. "Oh I know– your lil coffee addiction."
"Hey! It's impossible to coast through my life without coffee. It's my lifeline. Also you know I just love the taste."
"I know you love the taste, and I know exactly how you like it." I smile sheepishly before saying, "I have everything you like here, I bought it all yesterday. I– I'll admit I prepared a little too."
He huffs with a smile on his face, "Oh– you're absolutely perfect, you know that?"
We hold each other closely for a moment, before he leaves a small kiss on my lips, soft and gentle. Absolute ecstasy spreads through me, a happiness like I never felt before. I was irrevocably and utterly happy.
