Chapter 2: Shehnaaz’s Journey

As the bright lights of Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium beamed across the city, a young woman, with a spark in her eyes and an unmistakable spring in her step, made her way through the bustling streets of Mumbai. Shehnaaz Gill, a 22-year-old with a heart full of dreams and a personality as bubbly as champagne, was about to experience one of the most exciting moments of her life.

While the cricket frenzy gripped the entire country, Shehnaaz had a different excitement brewing within her. She wasn’t just any regular girl attending a match. She was a rising star in her own right, though in an entirely different field. In less than two years, Shehnaaz had managed to do what millions only dream of—she became a YouTube sensation.

It all started during her B.Com journey at Lovely Professional University (LPU). Between juggling accounts and business studies, Shehnaaz discovered a new passion: making people laugh. Always the life of the party, Shehnaaz had a natural knack for humor. Encouraged by her friends to take her wit online, she decided to launch a roasting channel on YouTube. She was shy about revealing her face at first, choosing to keep her identity a secret, letting her voice and humor shine through.

What began as a small hobby between study breaks turned into something huge. Her first videos, where she humorously critiqued trending topics, TV shows, and online influencers, garnered attention for their originality. Her wit, combined with her warm and relatable voice, soon attracted millions of subscribers. Within 18 months, her channel had skyrocketed to 2 crore subscribers, earning her the title of one of the biggest YouTubers in India.

Her anonymity had sparked curiosity. Who was this girl? What did she look like? And why hadn’t she shown her face yet? After months of speculation and endless fan theories, Shehnaaz decided to reveal her identity in style. She launched a second YouTube channel, where she revealed her face for the very first time. Fans fell in love with her all over again, not just for her humor but also for her infectious smile, radiant energy, and down-to-earth personality. Her second channel, where she posted singing videos, gained 1 crore subscribers within months.

Despite the fame, Shehnaaz remained deeply connected to her roots and family. Hailing from a close-knit Punjabi family, Shehnaaz’s parents, Sukhwinder and Pammi Gill, had always supported their daughter’s dreams, even if they didn’t fully understand the world of YouTube. “As long as she’s happy,” her father would say. Sukhwinder Gill, a man of simple tastes, had worked hard his entire life to provide for his family. He was incredibly proud of Shehnaaz, even though he couldn’t quite wrap his head around how making videos could be a career. Pammi, on the other hand, was her daughter’s biggest cheerleader, always the first to watch every video, even if she didn’t get all the jokes.

Then, there was Shehnaaz’s brother, Shehbaaz, her rock and confidant. The bond between the siblings was unbreakable. They had been inseparable since childhood, and even now, as young adults, they shared everything—from secrets to late-night snacks. Shehbaaz was protective of his sister, yet playful and mischievous, always teasing her about her growing fame.

“Choti,” Shehbaaz would often say with a grin, “Don’t forget me when you become Bollywood’s next big thing.”

Shehnaaz would laugh and retort, “Only if you agree to be my manager.”

Despite the teasing, Shehbaaz was proud of her, and today, he was the reason Shehnaaz was in Mumbai. Cricket had always been a shared love between them, and when Shehnaaz had mentioned she was heading to Mumbai for a work event, Shehbaaz had convinced her to extend her trip to watch the India vs. West Indies match.

Now, here she was, walking into Wankhede Stadium, the roar of the crowd making her heart race with excitement. While she had been to Mumbai many times for her YouTube events, there was something about this visit that felt different. Perhaps it was the sheer scale of the event, or maybe it was the thrill of watching a live match for the first time, but Shehnaaz couldn’t help but feel a flutter in her chest.

As she settled into her seat, she took in the view of the expansive stadium. The crowd’s energy was infectious. She pulled out her phone and snapped a few pictures, thinking about how her fans would react to her sharing this moment with them.

A tap on her shoulder broke her thoughts. It was Shehbaaz, his eyes gleaming with excitement. “You’re in for a treat, Choti. This match is going to be epic!”

“I know, I can’t wait!” Shehnaaz replied, her eyes twinkling with anticipation. “And who knows, maybe I’ll spot a cricketer I like,” she added with a wink, teasing her brother.

Shehbaaz rolled his eyes but laughed. “Cricketer or not, you’re the real star, Choti.”

They both chuckled, enjoying the playful banter that had always defined their bond. As the national anthem began, Shehnaaz stood with a mixture of pride and awe. Here she was, a girl from Punjab, living her dream, surrounded by her loved ones, and experiencing a moment she would never forget.

But as the game began and the crowd cheered louder, Shehnaaz couldn’t shake a strange feeling. As if something—or someone—was about to change her life forever. Little did she know, this day at Wankhede was just the beginning of a new chapter in her already extraordinary journey. A chapter that would intertwine her life with that of Sidharth Shukla, in ways neither of them could have ever imagined.

And just as the first ball of the match was bowled, Shehnaaz leaned back in her seat, unaware of the whirlwind her life was about to become.
