35. Across the Distance

Jisoo had always dreamed of traveling, and when the opportunity to study music abroad came, she couldn't pass it up. With a heavy heart, she packed her bags and said her goodbyes to Jennie, Jungkook, and, most painfully, Taehyung. They had confessed their feelings only a few months prior, and the timing of her departure felt bittersweet. Still, they promised to make it work, no matter how far apart they were.

It was hard, at first. Being in a different time zone meant late-night and early-morning phone calls, adjusting schedules just to catch a few minutes with each other. Jisoo missed Taehyung terribly, the way he could make her laugh with just a look, the comforting weight of his arm around her shoulders. Yet, every time they spoke, he made her feel like he was right there beside her.

They talked almost every day—Taehyung never let a day go by without calling, no matter how busy he was. Video calls became their lifeline, a way to share not just words but moments: Taehyung sitting at his desk, sharing his day, while Jisoo sat in her small studio apartment, telling him about her new classes, her new friends, and the incredible city around her.

One evening, a few months into her stay, Jisoo sat in her apartment after a long day. She missed home, and she missed Taehyung even more. He had texted earlier saying he was busy with work, and she hadn't expected a call that night. So when her phone buzzed with his name flashing on the screen, she felt a wave of warmth wash over her.

Jisoo answered the call, her face lighting up when she saw Taehyung's familiar smile.

"Hey," she greeted him, her voice soft.

"I didn't expect you to call tonight."

"Well," Taehyung's smile turned playful, "I figured you might need a surprise."

Jisoo laughed, her heart fluttering at the sound of his voice. "You're always full of surprises, Tae."

"You have no idea," he said mysteriously, his eyes twinkling.

Before she could ask what he meant, there was a knock on her apartment door. Jisoo frowned, glancing over her shoulder. "Hold on," she said into the phone, "someone's at the door."

Jisoo stood and walked over, wondering who it could be. She hadn't ordered anything, and she wasn't expecting any visitors. As she opened the door, her breath caught in her throat. There, standing in front of her, was Taehyung—holding his phone in his hand, the same playful smile on his face.

"Surprise," he said softly, his voice carrying the warmth she had missed for so long.

Jisoo's eyes widened in shock, her hand flying to her mouth. "Taehyung?" she whispered, hardly believing her eyes.

"That's me," he chuckled, stepping forward and pulling her into a tight embrace.

"You didn't tell me you were coming," she said, her voice muffled against his shirt.

"I wanted to surprise you," he replied, his voice tender. "I missed you too much."

Jisoo pulled back slightly to look up at him, her eyes shining with happy tears. "I missed you too," she whispered, her hands gently cupping his face. "So much."

Without another word, Taehyung leaned down and kissed her, the months of distance and longing melting away in that single, perfect moment. His lips were soft against hers, the kiss slow and tender, filled with all the love they had shared across countless video calls and messages.

When they finally broke apart, Taehyung rested his forehead against hers, his breath warm against her skin. "I'm here now," he said softly, his arms still wrapped around her. "For as long as you want me to be."

Jisoo smiled, her heart full. "I want you here forever."

One evening, they sat together at the piano in her studio apartment, just like old times. Taehyung played a simple melody while Jisoo hummed along, their voices blending together in perfect harmony. As they played, Jisoo realized how lucky she was to have someone like Taehyung in her life—someone who would cross oceans just to be with her.

"Thank you," Jisoo said softly, turning to Taehyung. "For coming all this way. It means everything to me."

Taehyung smiled, his eyes filled with warmth. "You're worth it," he said simply, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.

And in that moment, with the music of their hearts filling the room, Jisoo knew that no matter where life took them, they would always find their way back to each other.
