Dominic

Shane was explaining the expansion of my business and the remodel of the roof of my building adding a helipad. I didn't need Mackenzie and Julie here at all but I knew I wasn't gonna get Mackenzie out of her house with just asking.

The meeting was real but she wasn't needed. "So let me get this straight" said Mackenzie "you just needed clearing from the CEO?" She asked Shane.

"Yes ma'am that's correct" said Shane with a smile "however I'm glad you two came" he was only happy to see Julie if he was being honest.

"Shane how would you like to go out for some drinks later?" I asked cutting my steak since we met at a restaurant.

"Ms. Jones will you be attending?" Julie seemed to be less nervous she smiled "I'd love to Mackenzie you'll go too right?" Her eyes were pleading with her just like I'd wanted them too.

"Sure yeah why not" a tight smile appeared on her lips and I smirked.

"Then it's settled around 9:30 we'll meet at my place and we'll take off from there" everyone nodded. We ate and had small talk until lunch was over.

Julie walked out with Shane next to her talking and Mackenzie walked out next to me "so I wasn't needed yet you felt the need to take me out of my house just to what?" She asked sounding annoyed.

"No I didn't need you there however I wanted you there you're the CFO after all this was all an expansion and a remodel so I wanted your input professionally and I also wanted you there personally." I answered truthfully which she seemed a bit taken aback.

"Well where are we going later so I know how to dress is it more of an elegant bar or a rowdy club?" I chuckled "it's an elegant bar but we'll see where the night takes us" she laughed.

"It's Sunday calm down the night isn't taking us anywhere but the bar and back home" I smirked.

"Yes indeed back home with me" she shoved me "I'm not going anywhere with you not now or ever" I laughed.

"So when you kissed me you never wanted that to go anywhere?" She shook her head.

"It was just a kiss get over it and you're engaged to Caroline who I really like and who doesn't deserve that".

I wanted to tell her so badly that Caroline and I weren't a thing. That Caroline was in love with someone else. That this was all a sham.

"I have to go" she said when I never responded. Julie was still talking to Shane when Mackenzie shouted for a taxi "Julie are you coming or staying?" She smiled and waved goodbye to Shane "coming" she yelled.

Shane hung back watching her "beautiful isn't she" I said baiting him "she's gorgeous do you and her have a thing?" He was curious and I laughed "no she's my employee" he nodded.

"If she wasn't?" He asked.

"She's gorgeous yes but not my type" he nodded understanding.

"But your CFO is your type?" I chuckled.

"Oh she's definitely my type but she's my CFO and I'm engaged to be married" I say as we walk to my car.

"Yet you invited her for drinks?" I nodded.

"I'm a dick what can I say?" Shane shook his head "well I should get going I got two more meeting and then drinks with your three I'll see you then take care for now Dominic" I nodded.

"You as well" we bid our goodbye and I took off home. I lived in a penthouse in the heart of Miami when I arrived I called the bar that was located in my building downstairs.

"Hello Mr. Frost how can I help you today" he asked "I need a bartender for an hour at 9 I'll be having guests over" I said.

"Okay sir do you need a waiter to serve any food or just a bartender?" I thought "I'll take a waiter too with some appetizers".

"Very well sir a bartender and waiter will be there 20 minutes early to set up and have a menu ready for cocktails" I nodded "thank you" I hung up.

The bell to the elevator rang and out came out Caroline looking worried "what's wrong Caroline?" I said taking her over to the couch.

"I think Eric and I just broke up" fuck.

"How are you sure?" She nodded and cried.

"My father threatened him and Eric..." she cried "Eric punched my father repeatedly my dads in the emergency room and my mom is wanting to press charges" I slid a hand down my face.

"I'll take care of it Caroline" I grabbed my phone and called my lawyer making sure he took care of Eric and then called Eric.

"Hello?" He said gruffly "Eric did you have to go on and get Caroline's dad in the hospital?" I asked pouting some whiskey for Caroline and myself.

"I thought out of everyone you'd be happy with that" I chuckled lowly "I am trust me but I have a crying Caroline on my couch who think you both broke up. She's not sad about her dad you know she isn't" I stopped to let Eric explain.

"It's becoming too much. I love Caroline more than anything but I'm surrounded by death everyday and having to deal with the drama of Caroline's family and hiding behind you and her. The whole marriage that both of you have so she won't marry someone else! This is all ridiculous! How will I ever be with the woman I love if it's not really me and her. We can't even be out in public cause the tabloids will take our pictures and it'll become a whole scandal" I sighed.

This was how I felt too.

Trapped.

We were both protecting Caroline who was the sweetest soul ever. Who wouldn't hurt a fly. We had to protect her, or so that's what we kept telling ourselves.

This was the reason why I couldn't keep making moves on Mackenzie because of Caroline being on the chopping board.

"I'm sorry Eric I truly am. I hope this shit show is over soon trust me I want to live my life too not have to hide behind this marriage but right now the woman you love is all alone and only has me and Claire she needs you more than ever." He stayed silent.

"I know" I nodded.

"So come pick her up"

"I can't I'm on duty a fire can happen at an-" as he says that I hear the siren in the firehouse ring and he hangs up without a goodbye.

"Caroline honey" I say and give her whiskey "drink up I'm dropping you off at Claire's I have another meeting soon I talked to Eric both of you will talk after he's back at work" she nodded.

"I'm sorry I'm bothering you Dominic" I shook my head.

"You aren't and you never are Care" I hugged her and walked downstairs with her.
