Chapter 19

Mackenzie

The next day after the ball I was in bed hungover like crazy. My head was pounding and my stomach was in all kinds of knots from drinking so much. I quickly got up and ran to the bathroom emptying the contents of liquor I drank.

This was not gonna be a fun day. At least it was Sunday but still I grabbed my phone and quickly ordered a loaded breakfast. I brushed my teeth and showered and walked out into my living room only to fall over Julie's body that was right outside my room.

"Julie what the hell" I said knowing I had a perfectly good couch for her to be on but that wasn't the reason I questioning her choice. I didn't even realize she slept over were we that drunk last night?

"Ughh what the hell?" Julie said getting up the floor slowly stretching her limbs being sore from sleeping on my marble tile.

"Just an fyi this tile is not comfortable" I laughed.

"It's marble what did you expect it's not meant for sleeping on" she laughed and looked around at my apartment this was the first time she'd been here.

"I have extra toothbrushes and you can borrow some clothes if you want to shower I ordered breakfast" she nodded and I showed her what she needed and walked to the kitchen to make coffee.

I saw my phone wasn't even on the charger but on the counter in the kitchen I grabbed it and saw I had several missed calls from Dominic.

Then every memory came flowing back and I rolled my eyes not wanting to call him back. I started making my coffee when the door rang my food had been delivered.

I opened the door Dominic was leaning against the door frame with a bag of food in one hand and coffee in the other. I grabbed the bag and closed the door on him.

"You aren't getting rid of me that easily" he said his foot on the door I put the food on the table "if I remember correctly you said this between us whatever it is should stop so why are you here?" I questioned grabbing the loaded bagel and sitting down to eat.

I wasn't gonna stop my grumbling stomach just to talk "it's not about that" I nodded biting my bagel waiting for him to explain.

"Hey Mackenzie what did that jackass of our boss do to you yesterday?" Julie said coming out and seeing Dominic standing right in front of her.

"Oh um hi Mr. Frost this is unexpected" he smiled "I'm just here to tell Mackenzie that she has a meeting today with Mr. Kessler" Julie's eyes widened not in a way that she knew he was important but because she knew him and saying his name struck some kind of emotion in her.

"Mr. Kessler is in town?" She asked lightly which wasn't her normal excited and loud tone. Dominic seemed to pick up on the change as I did. We both looked at each other and back at her.

She smiled "so today is Sunday why does she have a meeting today?" I nodded completely forgetting it was the weekend.

"She has a point why am I needed for a meeting today?" I smiled thinking this was his way of getting me out of the house.

Now it was his time to smirk "he actually is in town and the meeting is today I'm here to pick you up he's needed to talk to the CEO, COO, and the CFO so we best be on our way and not keep him waiting" I rolled my eyes.

Mr. Kessler was an architect and I really don't know why he would be having a meeting with us unless it was to talk about an expansion.

"Well I need to change give me a few minutes" he nodded and drank some of his coffee.

I decided on a a white bodycon dress that had a square neckline with white pumps. I let my hair flow with its natural waves I put on lipgloss and walked out.

"Ms. Jones why don't you join us" said Dominic with a devious smile. He was up to no good that's for sure and Julie didn't want to say no to her boss after just calling him an ass.

"Sure why not" she said I grabbed a gorgeous navy blue off the shoulder dress and handed it to her "go change and pick some heels we will wait" she gave me a grateful smile and ran to the bathroom.

"Why did you do that" I asked lowering my voice.

"She obviously has feeling for Shane why not see what feeling those are" he smirked.

"Shane? Are you two friends?" He chuckled.

"More like acquaintances we used to be close in college but just grew apart after" I nodded Julie came out looking more gorgeous than ever.

"Okay I'm ready let's go" I nodded Dominic opened my door for us and we walked out "you look gorgeous Ms. Jones" Dominic said watching how nervous she was. A small part of me felt a prick of jealousy but stayed silent and smiled at Julie "you really do" she smiled at both of us.

"Thank you" she said softly fidgeting with her bracelet on her wrist.

At the meeting

We arrived at a gorgeous seaside restaurant when Dominic handed his keys to the valet he opened our car doors for both myself and Julie.

Julie's hand was shaking slightly so I grabbed her hand "hey are you okay?" I asked she nodded then shook her head.

"I've had sex with Mr. Kessler" she blurted out loud enough for Dominic to stop walking and turn around.

"How?" She bit her lip and looked at both me and Dominic.

"We grew up together well more so with my brother and I had the biggest crush on him before he went off to college he sort of took my virginity" she said quickly.

"Julie?" We all turned to Mr. Kessler I'm assuming from the look on Julie's face.

"Mr. Kessler hi" she said trying to sound professional. He instantly nodded "hello" he then shook hands with Dominic.

"Mr. Frost nice to see you again" Dominic nodded.

"And you as well who would have known you'd be the biggest architect in the east coast" Mr. Kessler chuckled.

"Well I certainly knew I would" we all walked into the restaurant. Mr. Kessler got the chair for Julie and Dominic got mine.

Our COO never got there so I definitely was gonna ask Dominic once we were done if he actually needed me there or was this his plan all along.

This is going to be a long lunch.
