Heather was standing at the register, waiting for the remaining minutes to pass by, that way she could lock up the store and clock out for the night. Normally she wouldn't be the one locking up the bookstore, but she needed the extra money and didn't want to let the perfect opportunity slip through her hands to make a little extra money.
Heather was suddenly ripped out of her thoughts when a miserable looking woman dropped a book down on the counter, making a loud noise, gaining Heather's attention.
Heather looked down at the book, making a comment about how good it was, trying to make civil conversation with the miserable looking woman standing in front of her. It only backfired when the woman rolled her eyes while paying for the book, before making a rude reply. "I'm only buying this trash for my daughter, because she's into this garbage." Heather bagged the book, handing the bag over to the woman, only to have her snatch the bag before turning to storm out of the store, but was stopped by someone standing in her way.
"The way you spoke to that young woman was despicable. She was only trying to make pleasant conversation with you, that way she doesn't lose her job. If you don't like it, then why don't you go shopping at one of the malls in Sunnyvale," the woman asked while glaring down at the other woman who was rude to Heather.
"Let me ask you this Teagan, is your darling husband aware of you wandering around this sad excuse of a town; especially when you know his feelings about this town? Should I call your husband right now, and tell him where you are right now," the woman asked.
"Do you really want to cause problems for yourself and your family? Because that can be arranged if you even think about calling my husband. If you don't want issues, then keep walking and forget that you have seen me here," Teagan said causing the woman to walk away from her quickly.
Teagan waited until the woman was gone before turning her attention to the young woman who stood behind the register. "Heather Watkins, one of my old students who was always acing my class. I didn't expect to see you here."
"Ms. Teags I didn't expect to see you walking around Shadyside mall. Especially this late. Though what did that lady mean by your husband wouldn't be happy with seeing you walking around here," Heather asked.
"Oh don't worry about that miserable woman. She's just looking to start issues where they're not wanted. Anyway, are you alright? She didn't do or say anything to get under your skin, did she," Teagan asked.
"I'm fine. I'm used to dealing with rude customers like her. But thank you anyway for putting her in her place like you did," Heather said.
"You're welcome. I probably should be going. I'm sure you want to get things done before you lock up. And it looks like there is a young man who wants to speak with you. Have a goodnight," Teagan said before walking out of the store.
Ryan waited until Teagan was out of sight before he rushed over to Heather with an excited look on his face. "Do you have any idea who you were just talking to?"
"Yeah. Our old teacher who works at Shadyside High School," Heather said unaware where Ryan was going with this.
"That's the sheriff's wife. Word is that he doesn't like her walking around Shadyside. But that could be all talk that bored people make up to entertain themselves, you know," Ryan said "Besides I heard that they do some interesting things to make up when they get into fights with one another."
"There is no need to talk about the sheriff or his wife. What they do behind closed doors is really none of our business," Heather said while coming out from behind the register, making her way over to the cart filled with books that has to be put back on the shelves. Ryan followed behind her, causing Heather to roll her eyes at him. "Is there a reason as to why you are following me around the store? Don't you have your own store to take care of?"
