That night, Sonic was laying down on his bed, thinking about what happened at school earlier. After that incident, he was scared to face Mina or even go to the cafeteria. He kept thinking about what she might do next to humiliate him in front of his crush. He sighed and turned his body around, resting his face on the pillow.
"You're gonna suffocate." Silver said, he was doing his homework at his desk.
Sonic groaned and turned himself around again, his face facing up.
"By the way, I'm still surprised you're brave enough to walk up on Shadow like that in front of everyone."
"Oh..." Sonic lazily sat up, "well...Shadow cheered me up when he helped me clean up my mess at the restroom. So, I thought I'd do the same." He mumbled.
Silver turned his chair around and stared at the other with a light chuckle. "That's cute though, it really brings you two closer than ever. I'm happy for you." He said and made Sonic smile.
"What I'm still unhappy about is..." Silver paused as he got up to sit on his bed, "the fact that I failed to prevent Mina from bullying you AND Mephiles had to take the punishment from the teacher." He grumbled.
"It's not your fault, Silver. But...yeah, I feel bad about Mephiles, too. I should apologize to him tomorrow." Sonic looked down in guilt.
"You don't have to apologize to him! Mina should be the one apologizing to you!"
"But Mephiles–"
"No– shhshshsh." Silver leaned forward and shushed his friend with his index finger. "You don't owe anyone an apology. Mina does. Mephiles got in detention because of Mina. Not you." He stated before pulling his finger away.
"But Mephiles did that because–"
"I know I know!" Silver shushed him again. "He smacked her because he wanted to stand up for you. That was his own will and he wouldn't be in detention IF Mina wasn't being so stupid. It's. Not. Your. Fault." He emphasized and pulled his finger away again.
Sonic sighed and looked away depressingly, his ears folded down.
"If I knew this would happen I wouldn't have joined the cheerleader."
"HEY." Silver stood up and placed both of his hands on Sonic's shoulders. "Listen to me! Don't think that this all happened because of you! No one could have predicted this! Stop blaming yourself for what happened!" He shouted while violently shaking his friend.
"O– Okay! Silver! Stop!"
Silver pouted and sat down on his bed again, "please don't be too hard on yourself, Sonic. Everyone would say the same, trust me. It's all Mina's fault for being stuck in her delusional idea that she could even get back with her ex. You're never to blame." He reassured.
Sonic held his own hands over his lap, his ears still folded. "Okay, I'll try..."
...
...The two freshmen attended school the next day, hopeful that the day would be normal. As they waited for the bell to ring, they noticed the door to their class was opened and a familiar hedgehog stood there, looking for them.
"Scourge?" Silver raised his brows in surprise.
The cheer captain walked in and approached their table. At that point, their class was probably the one to be the most visited by upperclassmen in less than a week.
"Sorry if this is kinda sudden, but I wanted to hear it from you." Scourge said with a low tone. "It's about you and Mina."
Sonic froze in place as the wave of anxiety rushed over his head and stomach.
"Mina don't usually beef around with anyone. If anything, she's trying to gain popularity. So if she's messing with someone, I know it had to involve with her fucked up love life." Scourge stated and folded his arms over his chest. "Sonic, are you and Shadow a thing?"
Silver nervously lowered his ears and waited for his friend to answer.
"Um...does it look like it? Because we– we're not." Sonic stuttered a little at his answer.
"So it's a crush then." Scourge confirmed for himself and earned a small gasp from them both. "Yep, okay. That reaction is all I need." He chuckled.
"Please don't tell anyone. I'm really embarrassed about it." Sonic pleaded quietly so no one else could hear.
"I'm not gonna mock you for it. It's cute to have a crush." Scourge smiled softly. "I just felt uneasy yesterday because the answer didn't feel right for me. Well, now it all make sense why Mina suddenly bullied you."
"I feel horrible, Scourge, Shadow told me he never wanna face her again...but now she's gonna keep coming back to me and Shadow would keep seeing her." Sonic leaned on his table and covered his face on his arms.
"Scourge, he kept blaming every thing on himself since yesterday." Silver whispered.
Scourge stared at the azure one who kept whining and mumbling on his desk. He knew it wouldn't do much, but being the senior of the two might probably do something if he talked about it. He looked at the clock on the wall to make sure he still had time there before the bell ring.
"Sonic, whatever happens that involved Mina, just remember that it's not your fault. You didn't force Shadow to stare at his ex, his ex just stupidly likes to show up in front of his face because of this pointless jealousy." He crouched down to be on the same level as his young teammate.
"You shouldn't worry about her and all of this shouldn't make you question your feelings over Shadow."
Sonic lifted his face up and stared at the other with a pitiful look. Scourge chuckled at the expression and pat his head.
"You have all the rights to try and win Shadow. In fact, I think it already worked. I've never seen anyone get that close to him and he looked comfortable."
Sonic's eyes lit up. "Really?"
Silver, who already knew thanks to Mephiles, tried to act calm in his seat.
"Trust me, I've seen a bunch of fans trying to win him over. All they get is just a middle finger to the face. Well...Mina did, but then she also get the loudest 'fuck off' I've heard from Shadow." He snickered.
Their ears perked up at the sound of the bell, which meant that class was about to start.
"Alright, I'll see you at lunch break." Scourge stood up and smiled at them before he left to return to his own class.
Sonic and Silver stared at each other for a moment. Silver then shifted his expression into a smug and rested his chin on the palm of his hand.
"See? I knew I wasn't the only one. Even Scourge think Shadow likes you back."
Sonic smiled for a second, but then his face turned pale into a horrified look.
"That– that means it's so obvious that anyone could tell that I have a crush on Shadow?"
"Maybe, but that doesn't matter." The other shrugged. "I actually think the more our teammates know the better, then they all can have a more valid reason to hate on Mina." He whispered with a mischievous smile.
Their conversation had to stop at that moment because the teacher arrived. They fixed their position on their seat and took out their notebooks and pens, preparing themselves for the first lesson of the day before their gossip continues at lunch break.
