The savory smell of pancakes filled the kitchen as Wei Ying flipped the last batch onto a plate, humming quietly to himself. His twins, Wei Yuan and Wei Jingyi, were seated at the kitchen table, watching him with wide eyes as he prepared breakfast. Cooking had become one of Wei Ying's secret talents over the years. After leaving the Jiang mansion and starting a new life on his own, he had taught himself how to cook. What had started as a necessity quickly became a way to bond with his sons. Now, the twins adored his cooking and constantly made requests.
"Baba," Jingyi piped up, his bright eyes sparkling with mischief, "can we go watch the new *Aquaman* movie today? Please?" He put on his best puppy eyes, knowing full well that Wei Ying had a hard time saying no to him when he looked so cute.
Wei Ying turned around, a knowing smile on his face. "Oh? A movie, huh?"
Jingyi nodded eagerly, bouncing in his seat. "Yes! A-Yuan wants to see it too! Don't you, A-Yuan?" He nudged his brother, who was quietly nibbling on his pancake. Yuan, just like his father Lan Zhan, was much more reserved. He glanced up at Wei Ying shyly and gave a small nod, but it was clear he was too embarrassed to ask.
Wei Ying chuckled, placing the plate of pancakes on the table and ruffling Yuan's hair. "You two are too much. Alright, we'll go to the mall and watch the movie today." Jingyi let out a cheer, while Yuan offered his baba a quiet, grateful smile. Wei Ying's heart warmed at the sight of them. They were his everything.
A few hours later, the three of them arrived at the mall owned by the Lan Corporation. It was a grand place, with sleek, modern architecture and filled with luxury brands and the newest entertainment options. Jingyi, of course, wasted no time as soon as they reached the entrance. The moment his little feet hit the ground, he took off running toward the cinema, his excitement getting the better of him.
"Jingyi!" Wei Ying called out in alarm, quickly grabbing Yuan's hand as they both raced after the runaway child. "Slow down!"
Jingyi, ever the troublemaker, darted through the crowds, too caught up in his mission to care about anything else. His giggles echoed through the air as he weaved between the shoppers, narrowly avoiding a few adults. But just as he rounded a corner, he collided head-on with a tall figure in front of him.
"Oof!" Jingyi stumbled back, landing on his bottom, wide-eyed with surprise.
The man he had bumped into knelt down immediately, extending a hand to help him up. "Are you alright?" His voice was deep, calm, and comforting.
Jingyi blinked up at the man. He was handsome, with sharp, elegant features and striking golden eyes that seemed to sparkle under the bright mall lights. The man was dressed impeccably in a suit, his entire demeanor composed and serious. But what captured Jingyi's attention most was the strange sense of familiarity he felt in the man's presence. He couldn't explain it, but it was like something inside him recognized this person.
"Wow," Jingyi breathed, taking the man's hand. "Are you an angel?"
For the first time in a long while, Lan Zhan felt a flicker of amusement rise in his chest. This child was... different. Sweet, honest, and full of innocence. He helped Jingyi to his feet and gazed down at him, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "No," he replied, "I'm not an angel."
