The days leading up to the Jiang family's gala party were filled with nervous excitement, not just for Wei Ying but for his entire circle. The event was meant to celebrate the success of the Jiang family and solidify alliances, but for Wei Ying, it was more than just a social affair. It was the first time he would attend such a public event with his twins, and the thought filled him with both anticipation and anxiety.

The morning of the gala was busy at Wei Ying's house. He was helping his mischievous twins, Jingyi and A-Yuan, try on their formal outfits. The twins, however, had different ideas. They were more interested in running around and playing than standing still for fittings. Jingyi, as always, was the ring leader of the chaos, pulling Shizhu into a game of hide-and-seek around the house, much to Wei Ying's exasperation.

"Come here, Jingyi! We need to get dressed, or we'll be late!" Wei Ying called, his patience wearing thin.

Jingyi peeked out from behind the sofa with a cheeky grin. "But Baba, I'm hiding! You have to find me!"

Wei Ying sighed but couldn't help smiling. His children were his world, and even on the most frustrating days, their joy and laughter made everything worthwhile. Eventually, after much chasing and coaxing, he managed to wrangle the twins into their formal outfits. They both looked adorable, though Jingyi's bow tie was crooked, and Shizhu was already tugging at the collar of his shirt.

As Wei Ying looked at his reflection in the mirror, his mind drifted back to the countless uncertainties surrounding the gala. The Jiang family had invited him with open arms, wanting him and the twins to be part of the celebration, especially since their cousin Jin Ling would be there. The children could play together, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity for a family gathering. However, Wei Ying couldn't shake off the nervousness building inside him.

None of the Jiang family members knew about the twins' father. The only people who knew the truth were the Wen siblings-Wen Qing and Wen Ning-who had been Wei Ying's closest confidants since the birth of his children. They were the ones who had stood by him through thick and thin, even helping him deliver the twins when the time came.

Wen Qing and Wen Ning had been adamant about keeping the father's identity a secret. They, too, were uneasy about the gala, knowing the Lan family would be in attendance. Wen Qing had pulled Wei Ying aside days earlier, voicing her concerns.

"You know the Lan family will be there," she had said quietly. "Are you ready for what might happen if they see the twins?"

"I don't know," Wei Ying had admitted, his voice soft. "I don't want to attract any attention, but I also don't want to keep hiding."

Wen Qing had nodded, understanding his dilemma. "Just be careful, Wei Ying. If anyone asks, we'll handle it."

Now, as Wei Ying finished adjusting his own outfit, those words echoed in his mind. He wanted to stay low-profile for the twins' sake. If the Lan family noticed something, he wasn't sure how he would handle it.

Meanwhile, at the Lan family estate, a different kind of conversation was unfolding. Lan Wangji had been pulled into a discussion with his parents and uncle about the strange children they had encountered in the mall. His mother and uncle had both described seeing a boy who looked almost exactly like Wangji as a child, and the resemblance had raised many questions within the family.
