The room was silent, save for the faint shuffle of feet and the hushed murmurs of the families who had gathered. Tension hung in the air, thick and palpable, as the Jiang family, the Lan family, and the Wen siblings sat around the table. Wei Ying was seated beside his twins, who clung to him instinctively. Their innocent faces remained blissfully unaware of the complexities that surrounded their very existence.

Jingyi, however, being the mischievous troublemaker he was, couldn’t stay still for long. He squirmed in his seat, his curious eyes wandering around the room until they landed on Lan Zhan. His angel. Without hesitation, Jingyi stood up and scampered toward Lan Zhan, his small feet padding lightly on the floor.

Lan Zhan, who had been stiff with anxiety, felt a warmth spread through him as Jingyi climbed up into his lap without waiting for permission. The child’s wide eyes sparkled with a familiar curiosity and fearlessness that tugged at something deep inside him. Jingyi settled on Lan Zhan’s lap with the confidence only a child could muster, and Lan Zhan’s hands instinctively moved to hold the boy steady. For a moment, he was frozen, unsure of how to act, but then he slowly wrapped his arms around the boy, pulling him close.

Madam Yu, seated nearby, could not contain her anger any longer. Her face twisted into a scowl, and she spoke with a voice dripping with fury. “What is going on here? What is all this nonsense?”

The tension in the room thickened as all eyes turned toward Wei Ying, who shifted uncomfortably in his seat. He had expected this confrontation for years, but now that it was happening, the fear in his heart was undeniable.

It was Wen Qing who spoke first, stepping in to shield Wei Ying from the immediate brunt of Madam Yu’s wrath. “Before any judgments are made, let me explain,” Wen Qing began, her tone calm but firm. “Wei Ying is… special. He has the ability to conceive and carry children, something rare but not unheard of.”

Madam Yu’s face turned red with fury. “Special? You call that special? When I found out, I thought it was a disgrace! A man pregnant—it’s unnatural!” she spat, her voice rising. “I chased him out because it was a shame for our family!”

Her words hung in the air, cold and harsh. But Wen Qing remained undeterred. “That may have been your view, Madam Yu, but you never gave Wei Ying the support he needed,” she said sharply. “Instead of protecting him, you cast him aside. Wei Ying didn’t run away—*you* chased him out of the Jiang family. You sent him to live alone in the Wei mansion, isolating him when he needed his family most.”

Jiang Cheng, seated beside his mother, clenched his fists but remained silent, his eyes filled with a mix of anger and sorrow. He had begged his mother to let Wei Ying stay all those years ago, but her pride had overruled the family's compassion.

The Lan family remained silent, processing this revelation. Lan Qiren’s stern face betrayed no emotion, but it was clear he was absorbing every word. Next to him, Madam Lan wore a look of deep contemplation, her thoughts clearly racing.

“It’s true,” Wei Ying admitted, his eyes downcast. “I didn’t leave because I wanted to. You… you told me I was a disgrace, and you chased me out of the Jiang family.”

Madam Yu’s face flushed with anger, but the rest of the Jiang family remained quiet, their eyes filled with guilt and regret. Jiang Cheng, seated beside his mother, looked torn between his loyalty to his family and the truth that had just been revealed.
